No, it doesn't. They like him because he's a nice guy, NOT because he's a good coach. You're seriously arguing being good is a necessary condition for players to like a coach? Look at my avatar - maybe you were or weren't a fan of the Cards during the Dave McGinnis years. Everyone loved him! He wasn't a good coach. There are a million examples of this.

We're 3 years in here - Gannon isn't a rookie or unknown quantity at this point. He's proven to be a bad NFL head coach. What tactical advantage does he give his players? What part of his leadership is leading to WINNING GAMES, which is the only thing that matters?

What evidence do you have that he's a good coach?

This is silly.

Players don't give a crap if Gannon is a nice guy. They care he coaches them well so they get better and earn more money. They hope to also win games. The fact that they still like Gannon through a losing record tells me they think he's a good coach, not that they think he's a nice guy.

Is he still a HC? He failed and that's all that matters at this point. Also, it's Wilks. lol

I keep seeing people wanting to hire Adams as HC? Why on Earth would we trust the keys to the kingdom (even if the kingdom is like a 3rd world country) to another person with zero HC experience and also very little coordinator experience, like Wilks and Gannon? I wouldn't give him the keys to Candyland. If you can pry him from Dallas as OC with an inflated title, fine, but no way to HC.
Is this an organization that is limited to inexperienced HC candidates in current climate so, therefore, that is the best anyone can hope for?

Only Cardinals fans would have a heated debate about whether we should keep a coach who is in the midst of losing 9 out of 10 and will likely go 0-6 in the division. Expectations have become subterranean.
Wins and losses are not indicative of how well JG is coaching them up I guess

gannon is clown shoes - should be shot out of a cannon - every post game presser we see the never ending handkerchief coming out of his clown mouth

and petzing should get nipples tattooed on his butt - i don't even know what that means but im standing behind it vehemently

THAT'S IT...The Dave McGinnis Avatar is what's holding the cardinals in this Twilight Zone Tennessee Titans losing freak of a game parallel universe!! LOL

To respond to the theme of the original post, I do think our talent is comparable to the Patriots. We are certainly much better than last year on defense. I actually went to the NE game last year and we handled them easily. They seemed to be further away from winning than we were.

Once again, I go back to this coaching staff screwed up the offseason. We entered the season worse than we ended the year last year. We haven't been able to overcome that coaching fiasco. The team is now in chaos, as seen by the penalties ballooning, slew of injuries and questionable efforts on hitting and tackling. Now I watch the Patriots and of course Maye (who I used to call "Justin Herbert Lite") looks really good. But the ENTIRE Pats team is better across the board. Especially on defense.

If we retain Gannon, we are literally going to be wasting a year. He's done. Cooked. I don't care what the players say, look at their performance. No QB will save him. I think none of the top QBs in college this year are as good as Maye was going into the draft, except for maybe Mendoza. And, Maye sucked last year.

Unfortunately, I am of the opinion this rebuild has failed and there is no way to save it by retaining these coaches. If we go back to square one at QB ....and I see no alternative... get new coaches.

The ONLY reason Gannon isn't being fired is because Mikey doesn't want to pay KK, KM, Gannon, and a whole new coaching staff. He could be winless right now, and I bet Mikey still wouldn't want to pony up that kind of cash.

Disagree. He's forcing situations because he's desperate for wins. He's rolling the dice on low odds decisions because he doesn't have a QB that can make the difference.

It's the same pathology that gamblers get when behind. It will work this time, what other choice do I have?

I want to see Gannon with a better QB before I judge him. Would be weird for me to write him off when a) I have always thought Kyler was a bad QB and b) I think QB's are 75% of winning.
This is where you’re losing people.

You have posted all these tweets of Brissett playing like a top 10 QB. All of these posts praising Brissett’s performance. That’s awesome.

But how are we still losing games? If there is good QB play going on, we shouldn’t be losing games. That’s an indictment of coaching. Gannon is a bad coach.

so what if keeping Gannon causes season ticket holders to drop their tickets?

It wouldnt take that many-- 3 or 4 thousand -- to cost Mike more than the payment a new coach.

Some think we are miles away from a winning team.

Look at the Patriots starting 11. Aside from Drake Maye, which starters are better than what we have. Be honest.

And how many are worse? How many could you honestly name without looking?

This team has many of the pieces, but no keystone. And yes, some of that might be coaching.

The Patriots had by far the easiest strength of schedule in the NFL this season with only the Bears a near second. As much as I love Drake Maye, I'm not buying the Patriots as serious contenders.

Look at this cake schedule the last 8 weeks:

Saints
Titans
Browns
Falcons
Bucs
Jets
Bengals
Giants

Now you still have to beat the bad teams, which they have, and that points to solid coaching. However it doesn't get much easier than that stretch of games (73 Combined Losses so far for those 8 teams). Oh and they still have the Jets and Dolphins again on their schedule. So there is at least two more easy wins. Kudos to them for taking advantage of an easy schedule though. The Cardinals failed to take advantage of a couple easy games early in the season.

Not sure you and I have agreed on much recently...however, you summed this up perfectly. The performance of our QB over the past several weeks has been much more than good enough to produce W's. I actually believe the issue is not only Gannon, but the entire coaching staff. They all need to go.

Well, he's keeping Gannon, so Mikey must not care too much about losing ticket holders.

Not sure getting fired by Michael Bidwill means anything for your long-term future or overall ability to succeed. Arians was effectively fired by Michael Bidwill then went on to win the Super Bowl.

People are really overweighting the value of HC experience. Maybe that matters in years 1 or 2, but obviously that’s going to decrease over time.

DeMeco Ryans is eight games over .500 as a first time head coach in two and a half seasons.

Kevin O’Connell is 13 games over .500 as a first time HC and won 13 his first season.

Vegas hired deeply experienced Pete Carroll and how has that worked out? Atlanta hired Reheem Morris who was a three-year head coach for the Bucs and an interim for the Falcons. The result has left them four games under .500.

Good coaches find a way to win regardless of experience. Bad coaches find a way to fail and not learn the correct lessons for why they were fired in the first
Getting fired by Michael Bidwill is inevitable for any head coach. That only changes if Michael gets fired by his siblings. Absent that, let’s enjoy the cycle: Somber press conference announcing a coaching change. Incredible work by MJB identifying candidates for the position. Exuberant press conference with the smiling owner/pilot/attorney announcing the new head coach. Cheesy grins all around….. you get the picture. Optimism abounds. Awards accepted. Fans, civic leaders and politicians once again forced to kiss the ring of a man that has no rings. Rinse and repeat.

We aren't too far off, roster wise. The defense needs a little work, but not the end of the world kind of work it needed the last offseason. The offense needs much more work, but getting the right QB will take this team a lot further than posters might believe. Of course, finding and developing that QB is a huge caveat. The even bigger caveat is that the GM and coaching staff need to be changed and gotten right for this to work. But the base roster, as is, isn't as far away as we might think.

I think you are on the right track with the questions to ask. What do the Cardinals have roster wise moving forward?

On the Offensive side there are still a bunch of big question marks:

QB1 ??????
QB2 Brissett (Fine Bridge QB)

RB1 Conner? (Aging and need a successor soon)
RB2 Benson??? (Still a question mark)

TE McBride (Best in the league)
TE Tip R (Solid Blocking TE)
TE Higgins (Decent backup receiving TE)

WR1 Harrison?? (Still a bit of a question mark IMO)
WR2 Wilson (I'm comfortable with MW as a #2WR)
WR3 ?????

LT PJJ (Very solid)
LG Brown??? (Regressed this season)
C Froholdt (I'm OK with)
RG Adams???? (I wasn't ready to hand him the reigns this season)
RT ?????

Offensive Depth: No one worth note. C Jones??, Gaines??

As Stout mentions there is much more depth on the defensive side of the ball:

Edge Josh Sweat (Best FA signing)
DT Walter Nolen ? (I'm very high on Nolen but he needs to stay healthy)
NT Dalvin Tomlinson (Solid run stuffer)
DT Darius Robinson??? (I just haven't seen it yet)
Edge Collins (OK)

ILB Mack Wilson (Solid)
ILB ADG??? (Meh)

CB Williams (Solid)
CB Milton (Solid)
CB Johnson (Solid)

S Baker (Solid)
S Rabbit (Solid)

Defensive Depth: Edge (Browning, Burch, BJ??), DT (Stills, Jones???, Nichols???), ILB (Simon), CB (Burke, Clarke??, SMB?), S (Crawford, Blount)

Just looking at it this way it's clear that the defense is in far better shape moving forward. There are still pieces to upgrade on the Defensive side but not the glaring holes that the Offensive side of the ball has.
