We continue the countdown to the start of the Arizona Cardinals' regular season. Today, Thursday, June 25, is 80 days away from the Arizona Cardinals' regular-season opener on Sept. 13 on the road against the Los Angeles Chargers.
With 80 days until Week 1, let's look back at the 1980 season for the Cardinals.
The 1980 season was the type of year Cardinals have been used to having for years. They started 0-3 and finished the season 5-11. They averaged 18.7 and allowed 21.9 points per game.
They did have two Pro Bowlers, both on offense. Running back Ottis Anderson, in his second NFL season, was a Pro Bowler and second-team All-Pro. Receiver Pat Tilley was also a Pro Bowler.
Quarterback Jim Hart completed 53.6% of his passes for 2,946 yards, 16 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.
Anderson rushed for 1,352 yards and nine touchdowns. That total still ranks third in franchise history for a single season.
Tilley had 68b catches for 966 yards and six scores.
Roy Green was a rookie and played safety. He returned a punt for a touchdown. He also had an interception on defense. Safety Ken Stone led the Cardinals with five picks. Fellow safety Ken Greene was next with four.
