Brazilian authorities arrested 10 people loyal to the Islamic State who were believed to be planning attacks during the Summer Olympics, a government official confirmed Thursday.

Investigators say those arrested were discussing targets in Rio, which leads them to believe they were planning attacks during the Olympics. Justice Minister Alexandre de Moraes said the group was part of a "novice cell" and that "they went from simply making comments about the Islamic State and terrorism to preparatory acts."

Yeah...throw in the local protests over what they are considering a waste of local resources and this could be an ugly situation.

I hope it goes well though as I enjoy the summer games much more than the winter games. The World Cup in Brazil dealt with a lot of the same issues and came out OK, so there is hope.

Women's soccer opening round was yesterday - 12 teams total in 3 groups. Top two from each group, plus the two best 3rd place teams advance (only 4 teams eliminated in Group stage)

Brazil, Sweden, Canada, Germany, France and USA all won opening games.

Her form is the closest to being perfect as we have ever seen. That is a huge advantage, time wise.

You guys realize the high jump record has stood since 1993


That boggles my mind on so many levels. But ill focus on 2.

1. Just like every sport, records get broken because humans are becoming more and more athletic as decades pass and nutrition and new training science are discovered. And so with that said, the guy who set the record in 1993 probably trained in a barn and ate poptarts for breakfast. Yet the record still stands? Insane.

2. I understand if the world record for juggling cantaloupes has stood for 20 years, because nobody cares about juggling cantaloupes...but high jump? Everybody high jumps. Your telling me theres not 1,000 former college basketball players who didn't make the NBA but can jump out of the gym who haven't turned their attention to this well known sport?

Add to that that women's high jump has stood since 1987.

The men's record holder is from Cuba, the women's from Bulgaria. Whether PED's and testing now played a part is up to question.

The men's American record has stood since 1991


The second and third highest men's jumps have come in the last two years, so there is a chance for it to be broken.





Also - the Men's LONG Jump record hasn't been broken since 1991, women since 1988

Of the top 25 all-time long jumps, only 4 have occurred in the last 5 years. Most date from the last century.

Women = only 1 of top 25 has occurred in last 5 years.
