As I mentioned in the original post, the salary cap is not a measuring stick for anything. Cash is king, also in the NFL. "Sitting on cap space" doesn't tell us anything.

In fact, there is a rule in the CBA that says that each team is required to spend 90% of the salary cap between 2024 through 2026 in cash. Specifically for the Cardinals, they need to spend close to 200 million this year to meet that obligation, and that is not a problem at all as last year they spent more than 277 million. Oh, and you know who spent less last year? The Seahawks and the Rams.

Overall, the Cardinals are in the middle of the league in cash spendings.
you're arguing against yourself. You say Mikey doesn't have the cash flow then say they spent more than 277 million and more than the cash laden Rams and Seahawks.
Cash flow is not a problem for any NFL owner.

How many games do we need to lose to have the worst five-year run in franchise history?
Ah, you underestimate the depths of wretchedness to which the franchise has sunk!

If you count the Card-Pitt year, the franchise went 7-44-1 (.144) from 1941-1945. They'd have to lose all but one game over the next three years to break that record!

Without the Card-Pitt year, they went 9-42-3 (.194) from 1939-1943. They'd have to lose all but one game over the next two years to break that record.

Considering only their time in Arizona, they went 25-55 (.312) five different times, in the 5-year runs ending in 1992, 1993, 2003, 2004, and 2006. If they go 7-10 in 2026, they'll set a new Arizona low at 26-59 (.306).

No, I am not saying Bidwill is poor. Many other fans are. I am just saying that he is not among the richest NFL owners and getting enough cash for a major signing bonus right away might be a problem for him. That is not only about cash flow, and the 277 million are not a payment he had to find in his pocket at once. It's two different things.

5 – Jermaine Eluemunor or Braden Smith at right tackle and David Edwards or Ed Ingram at guard should certainly be targets.

7 – I hope they gamble with the QB-spot, and I hope they do it by signing Malik Willis.

13 – I was on record at the trade deadline that I wanted them to trade for Rashid Shaheed. I would be surprised if Seahawks let him go, but if they do, the Cards should be in on him.

5. See #2. Eluenumor and Smith are going to get over 16 million a year. Engram and Edwards are going to be between 12 and 15 million. I will be shocked if we get any of them.
I mostly agree with your points, Weenus... but this one seems to be simply a difference between "what the Cardinals could/should do" and "what the Cardinals probably will do".

7. See #5. You can't spend 25 million on Willis and also upgrade the offensive line.
I'm pretty sure the Cardinals will have close to $50M in cap space by the start of free agency, so this should not be true.

#13 No reason for Seahawks to cut him
Rashid Shaeed's contract voids on 10 Mar. He'll be a free agent and the Seahawks are not expected to re-sign him.

The 90% rule is every 4 years, not 3.

No.

"For each of the following multi-League-Year periods 2021–2023 (three League Years), 2024–2026 (three League Years), and 2027–2030 (four League Years), there shall be a guaranteed Minimum Team Cash Spending of 90% of the Salary Caps for such periods."
I stand corrected. I wonder if it has always been that way, or if it was a change to the most recent CBA.

I got caught up in the offset language stuff myself.
Used to be just head coaches.
Then rookie contracts were added to the system.
Then apparently in 2020 teams started adding offset language to veteran contracts. Not all(yet) but it is now in the negotiation tool box.
If I were the NFLPA I would throw a serious wrench in that trend...maybe have a caveat that only contracts consisting of 10% of the yearly cap or more qualify for offset

Would like Shaheed but someone will be much more aggressive to get him

That is exactly right. Actually, when a contract is signed, the guaranteed money needs to be immediately deposited into an escrow account to ensure that the player gets his money. It is an ancient way of doing it, but for some reason the rule is still in place many, many years after it was introduced.

The point is that less cash-rich owners can be restricted by this rule since it is not necessarily that easy to get a fortune released to make a huge up-front cash deposit. It’s not all owners that are super liquid. I am pretty sure it has the effect that Bidwill releases a strict budget for at least the first couple of free agency waves, simply because he must since he doesn’t have time to suddenly pivot to get more liquids.
Have to be honest. I don’t buy the fact that Bidwill doesn’t have the cash. They have been drowning in NFL money forever, especially since the new stadium. If he had the money for Kyler he has all he needs.

It’s more the fact that they are too conservative.

My hope is that he becomes a success. To each their own.

We hoped the same for Michael and Kyler too. Monti hasn't shown squat in 3 years. NFL turnarounds are quick now, and we are always a year late and $50 million short.

Okay, but that is about expectations. Not hope. I think it is a bit strange to hope that the team fails even before the season has started.
