Where do you even get this? Gannon repeatedly stated that he let his coordinators calls their plays and run their system. I'm supposed to believe that Gannon hired a guy who worked for him in Philly to run his defense and they weren't aligned in how it should be run?

Yeah, there's a difference between calling the plays in the game, and the scheme that they run and the game plan that they set up.

You think a defensive HC is going to let Rallis run anything other than a defense set up with his principles?

RUMOR FWIW via PHNX - Cardinals offered the DC job to one of the Hawks/Rams positional coaches and were turned down. Rallis was the "break glass" option.

Yeah, I always take rumors that contain "One of, not sure which" as being accurate.

This aged poorly

It really didn't.

Nope, I absolutely did not suggest he would not be back. I said not to take any notice of the website because it's always out of date in the offseason.

Autry Denson is still on their as the RB coach and we hired a new RB coach a week ago. Drew Terrell was on their for a week after he went to the Bills.

Ryan Smith is still on there and he went to the Cowboys 2 weeks ago.

Are those guys actually staying too?

You can interpret it how you like but the website is a garbage source of info.

Mike LaFleur has his coordinators.

The Cardinals officially announced Nathaniel Hackett, Nick Rallis and Michael Ghobrial as the coordinators of the team’s three units. Rallis is a holdover, having held the same role for three years on Jonathan Gannon’s staff.

The Cardinals ranked 29th in points allowed and 27th in yards allowed

Because he was known to be a cerebral QB who spent years in the league. This isn't his first time on a NFL coaching staff just his first time as a QB coach, all coaches start somewhere and if they are good enough to they move up, look at the guy that is the new OC in Washington, he was a back-up QB with us under Kilff. I'd rather take a chance on someone like this than hire a retread.

I'm just happy there's someone on staff that played QB in the NFL.

More jokes coming in

It’s almost like we didn’t learn anything from going cheap with JGs staff

This may be one of the funniest sports paragraphs I’ve ever read:

“And so it is a return to Rallis, who is lauded as a defensive genius around the league, although his Cardinals defenses in three seasons have ranked 25th, 21st and 27th in yards allowed and twice in three years have been in the bottom three in the league in points allowed.”
A great sentence!

Okay so more soft defense with wide open receivers

Poor tackling and zero pressure on the QB's

Add to that, no adjustments during the games

What's not to like?
Look on the bright side we got him on a cheap deal.

This team hasn’t gotten my money in a few years. Now they might not even get my attention.

I don't know what to say. I thought I an others had been pretty clear. I've said it several times.

The QB is 75% of winning. Our QB sucks. Monti was lumbered with him and this is the 1st year he can realistically get out of that deal (and even then it's painful) and through the usual bad luck that haunts this team that just happened to fall on a year that we pick #3 and the QB draft options suck. The FA QB options also happen to suck.

Now I don't think Monti is perfect, but I know that none of that is on him. In fact, he's recognised Kyler sucks and is taking the first chance he's had to bin him.

Tell me, what would you have done differently at QB?
LOL

You talk up JBrisset and then post this and tie K1 to it.

You will say anything at this point.

Also this is a MLF coaching thread.

The AZ Cardinals Coaching page has been updated with a few changes. The only coaches left that that are moving on are are Ben Steele and Autry Denson, unless they are moving into other roles. All others leaving are gone. The new assistants are not added yet, but OC, DC and ST are updated too. The biggest update is Strength and Conditioning. Buddy is back in a day to day role from a consultant last year and a handful of guys from last year are gone!

Despite providing the reasons I thought may have caused them to keep Rallis, I did not endorse his selection. I have been posting I liked Martindale because he was aggressive about an attacking defense. I also posted this made sense as I thought Ossenfort had built the defensive roster with the intent of attacking. The Cards drafted Nolen, a pocket collapsing force. They traded for Browning, whose primary skill was creating QB pressure. They hung on to Ojulari who was thought to be move of a rusher than an edge protector. When CBs got injured they ignored bringing in vets because I presumed they felt the rush would be so strong they wouldn’t expose the young CBs. Now they’ve elected to stay with a DC who exhibited no aggressiveness when offenses were marching down the field at a frightening rate. He made no attempt to push a team out of field goal range when the game was on the line. I’m sorry I just don’t get it. Unless Rallis was not allowed to blitz or design concealed blitz plays there seems no excuse for his decisions. I didn’t think Martindale would lead them to the playoffs, I just thought he’d try to make the Cards competitive. Imagine the Cards are tied or slightly ahead with time winding down and the opponent is moving steadily down the field. If the Cards are consistently using a 4 man rush, Cards’ fans should stand up and simply walk out of the stadium.

Okay. Then why did we interview all these guys with no play calling experience?
Two of them were necessary to satisfy the Rooney rule. A third reportedly turned down more pay and the opportunity to call plays, to take a job with the Titans instead.

For the record... I would've been happier if the Cards had hired any of them over keeping Rallis.

At least when we hired Monti and Gannon I had a bit of renewed hope that maybe these guys could turn it around. The 3 win season followed up with Monti and most the coaching staff returning has left me with no hope for this team. I am completely out on the Cardinals until Mike can start spending some money or sells the team. I don’t have time in my life to follow such a poor product on the field.

The Cardinals interviewed Aubrey Pleasant (Rams) and Karl Scott (Seahawks), so it's not much of a stretch to figure that it was one of those two. That report certainly doesn't need to be more specific to be credible.

It’s stanning, plain and simple. When you make up something and present it as fact to support a gawd awful franchise there’s no answer for it.

The New York Giants' special teams unit struggled in 2025 (covering the 2024 season), ranking 20th overall with significant weaknesses in punting (26th in net average) and punt returns (23rd). While they finished 11th in field goal conversion (88.5%), they were poor on longer attempts and relied on a revolving door of kickers

We started with 4 really good defensive performances.

The Seahawks and 49ers performances were particularly impressive especially with the state of our CB room at that point. We were down to CB6 as CB1 at the end of the Panthers game.

They did give up a few 30 yard drives for a field goal at the end of the a couple games. I know to younger guys that means it was a bad game by the defense. But you'll as you get older and get a better understanding on the game you'll realize why that's wrong.

But luckily our headcoach understands that Rallis is good, and that's the guy whose decision actually matter.
I’m 57. Please explain to me how breaking in the game losing drives is anything other than bad.
