Cards may value trading 2nd Rd Pick for Kyler, League Source says 3rd is market value

I’d love to hear the long list of ridiculous assets given up for questionable veteran QBs since 2020. Feel free to include the fate of the GMs who made those trades in the following 12-18 months.

• Russell Wilson (2022): Traded by the Seahawks to the Broncos for two first-round picks, two second-round picks, a fifth-round pick, and players.
• Deshaun Watson (2022): Traded by the Texans to the Browns for three first-round picks, a third-round pick, and a fourth-round pick.
• Carson Wentz (2021): Traded by the Eagles to the Colts for a 2021 third-round pick and a 2022 first-round pick.
• Aaron Rodgers (2021): Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets along with the No. 15 overall pick (first round) and a 2023 fifth-round pick (No. 170). In exchange, the Packers received the No. 13 pick, a second-round pick (No. 42), a sixth-round pick (No. 207) in 2023, and a conditional 2024 second-round pick.

Wilson and Rodgers are the only two who won Super Bowls, but both were almost a decade prior to them being traded.

I'm with you, I don't think it's a pipe dream considering how important QB is. I could see the Jets trading a 3rd and a 6th, and using a second on a young guy.

It really should depend on what the new coach wants. I don't anticipate getting an unconditional second. A third with conditions is probably the best that can be gotten if that is the direction the next coach desires.

Big assumption there....that we'll actually find a new coach...

I unironically love coach Mac - I remember every time at training camp in Flag, he was the mayor - glad handing everyone, saying hi and he was such a great guy. I always think he missed his calling as a college football coach. What parents could say no to coach Mac!?! He's also kind of a spirit animal in the futility of the franchise. We have to try and laugh, right?

I don’t really understand this line of thought. I was told by many on this exact board when Kyler signed his extension four years ago that in a few years, his contract would be considered peanuts. That it would be cheap amongst quarterbacks who are the highest paid in the league. Yet now everybody says it’s a deterrent four years later for a trade. Even with the Cardinals, probably going to have to pick up a portion. If a GM likes Kyler and thinks he’s a possible winning quarterback for their organization the contract shouldn’t matter. Especially one that is now “peanuts” this many years later right?

Agree.
It's only an issue for any team whose cap is in such bad shape they can't afford to pay a starting QB.
The truth is...the new team will likely sign kyler to a new deal right away. A deal that fits their needs and provides them some flexibility in the first couple years.
They get kyler to agree by adding more bonus money and added years...but they include a team "out" after year two.
The Redbirds have to take the loss in a trade in the form of dead money.

It’d be a bargain if he were a top 10-12 QB. Right now he looks like a bottom 10-12 QB and he hasn’t played like a top 1/3 QB since the back half of ‘23 in a real limited sample size.

His development curve just flattened and a bunch of QBs caught him from behind.

You must have miss understood the term, "in a few years". They meant a long few (many) years versus a few (short ) years.
