One would think Chris Rainey just got promoted from the practice squad, or why did they pick up the guy in the first place :)

Next man up is the dumbest thing I ever heard. If the "next man up" was capable enough, they wouldn't be the "next man".

It's an attitude that the players have to have. You don't want them to give up on the season because a key player got hurt. On occasion that next man up ends up being pretty good. Tom Brady > Drew Bledsoe.

That's a great point but can we agree that the Tom Brady ex. is an exception rather than the rule?

Of course it's the exception and not the rule but you still want the players to believe in their team and that they can win regardless of who gets hurt even if that next man up was a former AFL QB and grocery bag boy.

If that was the case James Harrison would not have been in the league. Plenty of stories of un-drafteds and practice squad players becoming stars.

The NFL just announced the institution of concussion protocols for players wives.

This is just so incredibly on point. Tragic in its implications, but it speaks to the disarray our beloved sport is in.

Marion Grice

Need someone besides Fanaika to root for

Looked like a pro at ASU. Did well in the preseason for the Chargers as a rookie.

41 carries for 167 yards, 0 TD's. Long was 18, got 9 1st downs.

He's also a threat out of the backfield

ASU stats for 2012 and 2013 (think he was a JC transfer)
G Att Yds Avg TD Rec Yds Avg TD Plays Yds Avg TD
13 103 679 6.6 11 41 425 10.4 8 144 1104 7.7 19
11 191 996 5.2 14 50 438 8.8 6 241 1434 6.0 20

He's on SD's practice squad, so if he wants he can be signed.

He has more of a shot here to get time in the long run then in SD with Ryan Matthews, Danny Woodhead, and Donald Brown.
