Been discussed in other threads when Adamjt13 put out is estimates.
About a 1% chance we get a 3rd, 1% chance we get a 4th, 1% chance we get a late 7th, based solely on how Jason Wright grades out for this year, but past examples of other guys that grade out similar to Jason Wright shows it will count against us, thus a 97% chance we get nothing.
That is funny.Exactly where my mind went, Banky!
me too.Exactly where my mind went, Banky!

One would think that there's a lesson to be learned here. Yet, if things stay the same as they are right now (which they probably won't, i know), we negated a pretty sure 3rd next year for Dansby by signing special teamer and backup Paris Lenon. We negated what probably would've been a 3rd for Smith by signing the garbage that is McFadden and Wright.![]()

I know, i know, way too soon.

Like i said, it's way too soon to think about that. Still a lot of players who can be signed.Forgive me if im being naive but how does a special teamer like Lenon really equate into the argument as to whether Dansby will get us a 3rd comp pick next year?
Those reigning kings have been dethroned already, stay with it. Unfortunately not by us thoughBTW Feyenoord are rubbish PSV are the reigning kings of Dutch football and there aint no way your hooligan wimps are going anywhere![]()
(although we did kick their asses in the cup two months ago).To translate it into our situation before the Paris Lenon signing (which, again, will not be the endsituation, a lot will happen, many variables like playing time haven't been decided yet, so this is pure for the fun of it), we've lost Dansby and Urban, and gained Hadnot. (Step 1), we've lost more than we gained --> (step2), the enormous contract that Dansby received would probably have been good for a 3rd round comp pick, even if the Hadnot contract is bigger than the Urban deal in KC. But the minute we signed Lenon (who'll, based on his contract will most probably qualify), the whole money-thing (step2) became somewhat unimportant, since (step1) showed that we didn't lose more than we gained anymore (we'd probably end up with a 7nd rounder based on value).

But basically and extremely simplified what it comes down to is this, a team loses an amount of free agents to other teams and signs a number of free agents from other teams. If the amount of players lost is higher than the amount of players gained, you'll be in the market for compensation picks (the compensation will be determined by the value of the players lost versus the value of the players signed).
However, when you've lost 2 players and gained 2 players, then there's no situation where you've lost more than you've signed, the amount is equal. There's still a chance of a compensation pick if the value of the lost players exceeds the value of the gained players by a lot, but from what i understand it'll only be a 7th rounder.
When you gain more than you lose, no matter what the value of the players, no compensation picks will be rewarded.
So, in short, the first thing they look at is the amount of qualifying players lost versus qualifying players gained (step1). Only after that they take the value of the players into account (step2).

(Porter and Anderson were released players, they weren't free agents, so they don't count in the equation)

McFadden was easily an upgrade over Hood, thats just a fact both in terms of stats and film.
I certainly don't do film review, but I'd be hard pressed to find many fans who thought McFadden was easily an upgrade over Hood. Maybe my opinion of him is colored by how he was beaten like a rented mule in the playoffs, or maybe the expectations were high for McFadden, but I'd say he wasn't much of an upgrade at all on Hood.
Letting Hood go for financial reasons really bit us in the ass as the year went on and our depth at DB was shot.
