Yankees' hero was an embarrassing dropped popup by Angels originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The New York Yankees ended their Wednesday night game against the Los Angeles Angels with walk-off heroics from Jose Caballero.
They needed some help on an ill-fated popup first.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit a sky-high pop to the left side with one out and no one on base yet, the Yankees down 4-3.
Angels shortstop Zach Neto and third baseman Oswald Peraza (a former Yankee) both went out just beyond the dirt as they looked toward the ball in the sky.
Neither took charge.
The baseball dropped to the shallow outfield grass.
And a few batters later, the Yankees had won the game.

It reminded many of the infamous Luis Castillo dropped popup for the Mets against the Yankees that allowed a walk-off win in the Bronx for the guys in pinstripes.
This one was a little different because it required the Yanks to still do a few more batters' worth of work to get to the final outcome.
But as far as pain for the losing team, it has to be quite similar. The most routine of routine plays went awry, and then everything got worse from there.
The Yankees won't complain. A win is a win, and sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.
