In terms of quality of opponent (Ward and the Titans are ass), being at home and the way we lost with the Benny Hill tune playing it's hard to think of a worst loss in Cards history.

Because just watching it unfold in slow motion horror was so stressful.

You knew what was coming man. Every step along the way. But utterly helpless to stop it. It was like getting mashed by a train moving an inch a minute. Excruciating.

Like Russ said. This is rock bottom.

Rock bottom comes after the thumpings against the Colts, Packers, Cowboys, etc.

This just reminds me to add that, just as inexcusable as dropping the ball before crossing the line is the fact that Demercado was slowing down without even realizing that there was a player hustling his ass off to catch up and knock the ball out of his hand. He came within a yard or so of doing so even if Demercado hadn't done it himself.

How is Petzing not fired tomorrow AM? Continually playing it safe is baffling. The game is WON on ONE play late in the fourth qtr of games. that’s what u live for. Go WIN the game
Gannon has repeatedly said that he and Petzing are on the same page with regard to play calling. No way Petzing is out there turtling if Gannon is telling him to be aggressive.

It's up there. Feels like the worst.

A blow out win against a winless get-right team with a rookie QB, inexplicably lost in the last ~qtr by braindead play, flukes, and bad coaching.
AND coming off a "mini bye" during which the team promised to address the issues that have caused blowing big leads vs. awful teams in the first two games and losing on walk off field goals in the second two!

Yeah, it has me questioning how much blame Petzing actually gets. At this point, JG is the guy to blame for the offense turtling, IMO, in game after game. If he didn't WANT Petzing calling the offense like that, he wouldn't be doing so.

The year 1977 was Tampa Bay's second year in the league and they were an AFC team. They were winless in 1976 and won first game on the road at New Orleans in week 13. Season was 14 games long. The Cardiac Cards that had won NFC East in 1974 and 1975 and were 10-4 in 1976 and back then only one wild card so they missed playoffs. 31 wins in three years out of 42 games. In 1977 the Cardinals started slow losing opening game at Denver 7-0. Denver went on to win Super Bowl. The Cardinals had the most potent offense in the NFL in those years with likes of Jim Hart, Terry Metcalf, Jim Otis, Mel Gray, Pat Tilley, Jackie Smith (HOF), Dan Dierdorf (HOF), Conrad Dobler, Bob Young, Tom Banks, Roger Wehrli (HOF), Jim Bakken, etc. So game one was a warning something was wrong. They started slow at I think 1-3 and then turned it on looking like the Cardinals again beating likes of NFC central champion Vikings in MN and then beating then NFC East leading Cowboys in Dallas on Monday night football which was must win because Dallas was undefeated. Then the wheels fell off. They were 7-4 and at home against Dolphins and lost to Don Shula/Bob Griese Dolphins 55-14 on Thanksgiving Day. They then beat the Giants as I recall and next game was at home against Washington Redskins. My parents took my first regular season game and it was seven degrees with slush in the aisles. It was must win and Cardinals lost 26-20. This was last home game of Coryell's Cardiac Cards. Metcalf became a free agent and went to CFL, Dobler traded. Last game of season a dejected and heartbroken Cardinals gave Tampa Bay their first home win in two seasons. Conrad Dobler got so mad he was thrown out of game for throwing his helmet and breaking it. The twin debacles of the two Florida team losses were worst in my living memory.

I too remember Don Coryell's last season in St. Louis. The Cardinals had drafted Steve Pisarkiewiicz, a QB from Missouri, in the first round of the 1977 draft and he was a complete bust. Coryell was furious that the front office drafted a QB instead of someone on the defensive side of the ball. He later said that the team drafted a QB when they already had Jim Hart, and didn't have one defensive player that could start for the New York Giants.

This is the suckiest franchise to ever suck. Too many worst losses that I have blocked out so I didn’t have to think about all the wasted energy and emotion spent on them.

The demise of the Cardiac Cards was tragic. BB inexplicably thought he was the reason they were lighting it up and hanging with the NFC’s best, so he seemed almost glad to jettison Coach Coryell. Decades later his son MB would do likewise with Coach Arians. So sad that the Bidwills have had tremendous fortune fall into their laps twice and haven’t been smart enough to see it and appreciate it. Then again, a broken clock is right twice a day, eh?

This wasn’t even a top-2 worst fumble in the 2nd half.

Shouldn't this play be considered a false start with Gaines standing up and pointing during the snap. If so the play should have been a dead play or am I wrong.

if a team false starts, the play is automatically dead, and the ball remains dead because a false start is a "dead ball foul" that occurs before the ball is snapped. The foul stops the play to prevent injury, resulting in a five-yard penalty for the offense and the down being replayed.

August 31st, 1997 - the Cardinals lead 21-3 entering the 4th quarter. They lost 24-21 to the Jeff Blake led Bengals.
Don, this was in Cinci, correct? I seem to recall Larry Centers fumbling late giving the Bengals the chance to win. If this is the game, I went into the bathroom at the sports bar and cried. I was a grown man, drunk yes, but a man nevertheless. Crying like I was an 8 year old.

If we dont have two bonehead plays ( the snap when K1 wasnt ready and the DemercDOH fumble ) then this team most likely puts up 35 pts yestyerday

yeah I just don't see how JG and company come back from this.

There's no mercy in the NFL, and this team might be ready to quit after yesterday. We could easily, easily be 2-8 after the next five (IND/GB/DAL/SEA/SF).

I really doubt JG/NR/DP/K1 make it to 2026.

That’s a pretty big IF lol but I hear ya. If this was a one-off or rare I would agree but this is habitual boneheadedness. Definition of insanity type stuff. Accompany the lack of preparedness and smarts with the conservative play calling to close out games and its mind boggling he gets paid millions.

I still think the Monday night meltdown was the worst.

We were totally hosed.

The one play that stands out still.
We give the ball to edge, he runs a little but gets his leg grabbed. Then another defender dives at his legs,..then another, and another...Edge was on total lock down...stood up, with 5 or 6 defenders piled waste high around him...totally could not move for like four seconds...a definitive forward progress situation.
Five yards away you see Brian Urlacher stop...looking at the play...obviously expecting a whistle,...because, well...forward progress had been halted..
Then you see Urlacher realize that the official standing 3 yards away watching Edge, well he ain't gonna blow the whistle!!
So Urlacher jumps too, runs over and drags the ball away from Edge, who can't resist because he is totally pinned...then Urlacher runs in for the Touchdown.
Was obvious to me at that moment there was no way the officials or the nfl was going to allow that arrogant ass Dennis Green make these loser ass upstart Cardinals into a winner. That game. That season. That coaching staff. All the hope that came with it...
It was all dead and gone right then and there.

For whatever reasons...we are never just fighting against our opponents on the field.
Rather it's the Pottsville curse...the NFL not being ready for a dark skinned HC to win a Lombardi...or Billy B always taking the moral high ground in a league full of dirtbag owners,..or the fact the Cardinals milked the nfl profit sharing like welfare for decades .... something always turns up to play Lucy to our Charlie Brown.
A lot of those obstacles are gone now. So the team has to find new ways to remain the laughingstock of pro sports.

But I have to admit.... I grudgingly admire their creativity
