Win or lose, has McCown redeemed himself to an extent?

By benching McCown, Green delayed his learning progression and hurt team confidence.

I'm actually fine with benching him it may have done some good. I didn't like it at the time and I'm not sure it was done for the right reasons but maybe he got the point.

He seemed to have benefited from it but then again we all need to see more. I like the kid and want him back but I don't want to give him the job next year I want him to earn it.

I would love to see McCown do well, but to be fair... the 49ers have, well let's call them CB issues. Remeber the problems we had near the end of last year when Starks, Barrett, and Hill were all banged up and we had three guys from the local community college come and fill in?
Yeah, he looked better but this wasn't a true barometer of his ability, more like a "welcome back to starterville" party.

I'm sorry, but Josh showed me about as much as he had all year...against the worst team in the league (next to us). I'd rather have Navarre's broken ring finger in the game; there's more talent in there than in either of our other QBs.

Don't get me wrong...Josh is a fine QB...that is, if he is a rookie. Last I checked though, he's a third year guy with UFA status coming up. I don't expect to see rookie play from a guy with that many starts under his belt, and plenty of time having watched from the bench.

1) Don't make the assumption that all players learn at the same timeframe. They do not all have the same learning curve so quit acting like they do. Rich Gannon didn't become good until around his 8th year.

2) I'm get sick of this "get a franchise QB" argument that makes it seem like we are the only team that doesn't have one. Franchise QBs (at least those that have earned the title) are few and far between. So if someone knows an absolute failsafe perfect QB with no flaws thats available then I'm all ears. Until then I don't assume that the perfect QB is out there

3) McCown is a RFA

Exactly, Navarre is unproven. And did McCown prove something to you today? What was it? That he can't play defense or keep people from making ******** mistakes? a 25 point comeback only seems possible if you are playing the Cardinals... not if you are the Cardinals.

He had a good second half. We need to see a lot more to go into next year thinking he is our QB of the future. He got here by throwing a miracle pass to win a game last year. Do not let one half make him a hero. If he plays this the rest of the season like the second half then I will cross over to the dark side. Looks to me like we are heading for Pick #3 or #4 in the draft. Our record will be much like last year and in the end the record is all that matters. I started out the year thinking Josh was our problem. I have gradually come to the conclusion it is Dennis Green. He is responisble for our coaching staff, the QB's we have, the RB's we do not have, and finally the future. Like Buddy I bought into Dennis Greens message but the signs were there early that this guy is a lot of talk and a lot of ego which is no replacement for leadership and football smarts.

Josh proved to me that he can throw short passes and make his WRs jump for every ball. His accuracy is CRAP, and he is a waste of a cannon arm. He has very poor field vision, and there was a point in the game where NOBODY was on Boldin, and he didn't even see it and audible a quick pass to Boldin. It would have been a TD. He is completely, totaly, 100% unaware of what is going on on the field.

He's got raw talent, and that allows him to do well at times.

He's a mirage...he's had two pretty good games against San Francisco, both losses. Well, actually only one half today. That and a dollar will buy you a soda. Big freaking deal. If Josh showed me anything, its that he's competent enough to throw the ball on the worst offense in the league ONLY when they are in a prevent D. I'm sorry, but I'm not getting excited about that at all.

This I agree with. There are a lot of sucky people in here right now. Starting with Alex Wood.

However, there is a love connection between many people and Josh McCown. They think he's the second coming. I've been waiting for him to jump down off that cross and actually do something for this team, but alas, he has not. Yet his lovetunnelers continue to prop him up. I may overreact to his sucktitude, but in the long run I balance out the McCoolaider's freeflowing, yet unearned optimism.

Josh McCown has done nothing more than earned a second chance to show he is a NFL QB. One half does not prove this. He had a good day. But at the end of the day you are measured in Wins and Losses...We lost. Make no mistake he is the best QB on our roster at this point. He gives us the best chance to win. With the season done I would like this to be a real evaluation time for alot of players. How much heart do they have to want to finish the season strong. There are going to be alot of guys on this roster not here next season. IMO at this point Josh is probably one of them but I hope he changes some opinions of him.

I hope this "best chance to win" stuff means only THIS year with THESE 3 QB's. I cannot for the life of me believe that anyone can seriously think that Josh McCown is the QB of the future for any team. Unless, of course, 4-12 or 5-11 is the goal every year.

The man has no field vision, no accuracy (consistently) and some of the happiest feet I've ever seen. He MAY be a 3rd stringer, emergency QB to ONLY see the field in the direst of circumstances.

If this team doesn't get a bona fide starting QB next season and if Denny is stuck with Josh again next year he'll probably be fired at the end of next season. This crap we've seen at QB this season cannot continue.

Oh, and please, please, please get a quality RB also

Never hit one in stride, has no accuracy and no arm strength whatsoever. I take naps between the time he throws and the time it gets to his reciever (if they are anywhere near where the ball comes down)

His jump balls he is throwing are ridiculous as well. He is making Fitz and Bolding great CB's though making them defend the ball from the defenders!
