the gm in seattle has been there since 2010 - geez - i wonder why - maybe because he drafts o-line 40% of the time in the first round - matter of fact...
Agree with your post overall, and obviously the Seahawks have been consistent winners under Schneider - but I suspect the reason they've drafted so many OL in the first round is that for years and years, their OL was considered their biggest weakness.

So it seems as though their success hasn't been a result of Schneider's acumen in recognizing the importance of prioritizing the OL in the draft, but rather it's come in spite of his inability to fix the OL with high drafted talent.

And people wonder why Murray can't get settled behind the line - he knows what is coming.

Brissett stood tall because he hadn't faced a good d-line yet as a Cardinal. And he got demolished.

Petzing didn't do anyone any favors with some of his play designs and calls. That first strip sack for a TD he had Beachum in at TE and motioned him to the right where he ended up triple teaming the DE there. However that left 3 blockers on the left side to account for 4 pass rushers after Seattle blitzed.

I'll counter this - I believe most of this was under the Tom Cable era, where he though he could take any athletic "big man" and turn them into a quality OL starter. I was active on the Seahawks board during those times and the fans hated the guy and always tried to figure out how he got Pete Carroll to by into the plan. Some subjective reporting follows:

Seattle enjoyed considerable offensive success from 2011-15 with Cable as the offensive line coach, but struggled after the departure of RB Marshawn Lynch, who helped the Seahawks establish a franchise record with 2,762 rushing yards in 2014 when Seattle made its second consecutive trip to the Super Bowl.

The 12s largely blamed the 53-year-old Cable for Seattle’s offensive line deficiencies, which rendered Wilson one of the most pressured quarterbacks in the NFL over the past two seasons.

You say this like the entire league isn't running an offense similar to Petzing. Its everywhere this year. Kubiak's offense uses TEs even more than Petzing.

Ha! Good one. I am laughing.
You laugh but this is the offensive meta now, everyone is doing this crap, including all the best OCs. McVay has been running 13 personnel 40% of the time for the past month.

Rams/Ravens/Packers/Colts/Pats/Seahawks/Falcons are using more 12/13 even more than we do. Its been really effective, and its the logical way to counter a modern defense.

Even if we get a new headcoach, chances are the next OC is going have an offense similar to Petzings. If we hire a McVay tree guy its guaranteed.

I think the evaluation of the OC is less about scheme and more about prep and plan week to week

A new blitz that catches an offense unprepared and results in a sack / fumble / return TD isnt great but it happens from time to time.

But, facing the SAME blitz the next series and the team isnt prepared AGAIN reflects very poorly on the OC and the rest of the offensive staff

Almost an exact repeat of the first failure. I think they knew exactly what happened and why but were unable to prevent it again.
Didn’t have the horsepower to stop it!

This is what drives me mad the most. Same mistakes over and over again.

this is a problem when 3/5 OLs are in the bottom third

xc_hide_links_from_guests_guests_error_hide_media
so hard to run a functional offense when at both
G spots and at RT a defense can get a matchup they can exploit on every down.

you can hide / mitigate / cover up one OL like that but not 3.

I know people want OT with that 1st pick, but this class kind of sucks for that.

Hot take but I wouldn’t mind going DT/DE since this is Calais’ last year.

Peter Woods to be exact.

Cardinals OL PFF ranks (min. 300 snaps):
Paris Johnson: 6/62 tackles
Jonah Williams: 51/62 tackles
Evan Brown: 46/64 guards
Isaiah Adams: 59/64 guards
Will Hernandez: 61/64 guards
Hjalte Froholdt: 13/33 centers

So we have 1 good tackle,(who cost us a pro bowl DE) one middle of the road C, and every other starter is flaming garbage.

Can someone explain why 3 years in we should give Monti more time?

I am more meh on Woods in that he is not a good rusher. That said, he is a good player. Arvell Reese and David Bailey should be in the convo. I am personally a believer in Mauigoa as a RT if he was available. EDGE, DT, OL is where the value meets need. Maybe WR. I am still worried that Monti is going to pick Jeremiayah Love at RB.

I listened to the McShay podcast as he seems to think that Simpson is 50/50 in coming out and Sellers is almost 100% going back.

Reese is a pipe-dream. I’m 95% sure he’ll be the first non-QB off the board.

I like Bailey, but it sounds like he may have character concerns(dirty player)

I think Mauigoa is a better OG than OT, but we’ll see.

Love is a Keim pick, not Monti. Monti has shown that he doesn’t go for non-premium picks(RB, ILB, OG) in the 1st round so far. Don’t see that at all.

Woods reminds me a bit of Jefferey Simmons. Jeff wasn’t a pass-rusher like that either, but he was so strong at the POA & athletic enough to cause havoc at the next level.
