It was a numbers game for the New England Patriots in 2025, and numbers figure to tell the story for them again next season.
Patriots quarterback Drake Maye threw for 4,000 yards for the first time last season. Stefon Diggs went for 1,013 receiving yards on the year, giving New England their first 1,000-yard receiver since 2019. New England went on a 10-game winning streak from Weeks 4-13, and the team improved its 4-13 record from 2024 to 14-3 in 2025. The Patriots’ record against playoff opponents from last season will be definitive for them in 2026.
According to NFL.com’s Matt Okada, the number that will be defining for the Patriots in 2026 is nine, which signifies the number of matchups that they’ll face against playoff teams from last season.
The Patriots will face the Seattle Seahawks, Pittsburgh Steelers, Jacksonville Jaguars, Buffalo Bills, Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers prior to their Week 11 bye. New England will then face the Los Angeles Chargers, Bills, and Denver Broncos after the bye week to close out the season.
New England went 0-1 against the Steelers and 1-1 against the Bills in the regular season in 2025. They defeated the Chargers in the wild-card round and the Broncos in the AFC Championship Game, but lost to the Seahawks in the Super Bowl.
The Patriots will have their work cut out for them to find themselves on the right side of .500 against their playoff opponents from last season in 2026. Their new-look roster will have the talent to do so.
