Patrick Mahomes is hard at work rehabbing and training during the NFL offseason.
After the 30-year-old Kansas City Chiefs quarterback tore the ACL and LCL in his left knee on Dec. 14, 2025, his focus has been on returning to the field when the Chiefs take on the Denver Broncos at a Monday Night Football home game on Sept. 14.
Now his teammate, Travis Kelce, is weighing in on the possibility of Mahomes being in playing shape in time for the Chiefs' season opener.
“Trav, do we get to have Patrick Mahomes on the field Monday night?” Travis' brother Jason Kelce asked him on their New Heights podcast. “Is he back week one? Because they said it at the Disney Upfronts, and I was like, I don't know if he's back yet, but I think I like that we're advertising it this way. Is he gonna be back?”
Travis, 36, replied, “That man's working his ass off. I know that.”

Jason, 38, called his brother's response a “corporate answer,” acknowledging that he didn't "confirm or deny the possibility.”
There's been a lot of speculation surrounding Mahomes' potential return and exactly when that might happen for the Super Bowl winner.
Chiefs general manager Brett Veach spoke out about the quarterback's situation during an interview on the Pat McAfee Show earlier this month.

"I don't want to speak for Rick Burkholder, our [head] trainer, and I'm not a doctor, but it has been just an awesome experience to see exactly how Pat Mahomes has attacked this rehab process," Veach said. “He is in this building [from] 7 [a.m.] to 3 or 4 [p.m.] every single day. If he goes to Texas for a few days, he takes one of our assistant trainers with him.”
Veach, 48, said that Mahomes' “hard work” means he was “pretty far ahead of schedule” in his recovery.
“He's such a motivating presence and an example to the building on how to approach every day like a true professional. I'm excited for him to get back out there,” Veach added.

Last week, Chiefs coach Andy Reid commented on the timing of Mahomes' return.
“I hear people say, ‘Well, he's ahead of schedule.' I'm not sure who makes the schedule,” Reid, 68, said during an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show. “Everybody's different. I can tell you, though, he's spent a ton of time here. He's getting better everyday. He's not taking any setbacks.”
Reid added, “I would tell you he's doing very well, but it's a day-to-day thing. As long as he keeps making progress forward, maybe you'll have a chance to see him the first game, but, again, we'll play that as we go.”
