Patrick Mahomes is back in action!
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, 30, returned to the field for the team's opening OTA practice on Tuesday, May 26, signaling a significant step in his recovery since he tore his ACL in a game against the Los Angeles Chargers last season.
Mahomes, who suffered the season-ending injury in his left leg on Dec. 14, 2025, was seen throwing the ball while running quarterback drills on the gridiron in a new video shared in a joint Intagram post between the Chiefs and the NFL.

The QB wore a yellow practice jersey with his No. 15 on the front, red team shorts and matching sleeves, a red Chiefs helmet and a massive, black knee brace on his left leg that allows him to be active, yet support his injury recovery.

Seeing the quarterback back in action is another step closer to achieving his goal of returning to the field for the team's first game of the 2026 regular season, when the Chiefs host the Denver Broncos on Monday, Sept. 14.
Mahomes has been rehabbing his way to recovery since his successful surgery was completed on Dec. 15, one day after he sustained the injury. He's shared glimpses on his social media in the months that followed, and his coach, Andy Reid, and teammates have shared updates.
At the end of March, Reid said while speaking with the media that he'd "never bet against" Mahomes in pursuit of a healthy return in time to start in September.
"Every player is different. I will tell you though, I would never bet against him," Reid said of Mahomes at the NFL's annual meetings on Tuesday, March 31, per ESPN. "He's going to put in the time and effort and always push it but within reason, so he doesn't take steps back."
He added, "So far, it's all been positive. He's doing great."
The three-time Super Bowl champion's teammate, Travis Kelce, also weighed in on the possibility of Mahomes being in playing shape in time for the Chiefs' season opener.

"Trav, do we get to have Patrick Mahomes on the field Monday night?" Travis' brother, Jason Kelce, asked him on their New Heights podcast. “Is he back Week 1? Because they said it at the Disney Upfronts, and I was like, I don't know if he's back yet, but I think I like that we're advertising it this way. Is he gonna be back?"
Travis, 36, replied, "That man's working his ass off. I know that."
