The New York Yankees and the San Francisco (formerly N.Y.) Giants are two of the most storied franchises in baseball history.

It'd be hard to imagine how Mickey Mantle and Willie Mays would feel about what is going to take place before the Yankees and Giants meet on Wednesday night to open the 2026 MLB regular season.

For the ceremonial first pitch, a baseball is going to be brought out to the mound. Makes sense, right?

Well, not the way you're imagining.

A disembodied hand will bring the ball to the mound.

Why is a hand, aka Thing, bringing baseball to Yankees-Giants?

It's a promotion, of course.

The Yankees and Giants' Opening Night game is being broadcast on Netflix. What better way for the streaming giant to promote itself than this?

The hand is actually 'Thing,' relating to the Addams Family, which is featured in the new Netflix series Wednesday.

Yuck, right?

Thing from Wednesday will be lending a hand with the ceremonial first pitch ahead of Yankees vs. Giants.
