Next year the cards have a pretty tough schedule...so I think there are three options.
1. the cards trade Murray and ride with JB
2. the cards can't trade Murray, so they ride with Murry and trade JB
3. Something happens that nobody saw coming and we all go WTF? And a, can't wait for 2027 draft thread is started....LOL

I would assume he was told he isn't going to be a high pick this year and is betting on himself next year, probably would make more in NIL.
4or 5 mill in college is better than a 4th round rookie contract, lol

I would guess it would be something like: two firsts, two seconds, Kyler, eat Kyler's salary, and maybe more.
so you are saying we would buy the first pick outright instead of just compensate for a swap from 1 to 3.

Sure, but that's more because of scarcity, not because Mendoza is on the level of Peyton Manning coming out.

I don't see the Raiders moving from that pick no matter what the offer is, but it's because they have no other choices.
Really??

Last two college seasons...Peyton of course played both years at Tennessee...while Mendoza had to learn an entirely new system...

Manning played 23 games..62% Completions...7106 yards, 56 TD's, 23 INT's, 8.35 YPA, 147.7 Rate

Mendoza played 27 games(mostly because of the path to the Natty) 70.3% completions, 6540 yards, 57 TD's, 12 INT's, 8.55 YPA, 163.75 Rate

they both had lots of awards and recognition in college...Peyton quite a bit more... But Mendoza had three top awards Manning could just never win...a College football National Championship,..a Heisman Trophy,..and a Manning award...

Manning 6'5" 230
Mendoza 6'5" 225

Any and everybody, including Peyton Manning, will tell you it was his processing that made him great...the mental part of the game is crucial for a high level QB..
Mendoza, entered college football at CAL,...however, he refused a scholarship to YALE because he didnt fell they offered a strong enough football program to help him advance.... so if he is smart enough to get recruited by Yale he must certainly have the potential to play QB at the highest levels...but like any QB...we wont know if he can dominate at the pro level until he is under fire at the pro level.

But to your point...Yeah, Mendoza as a draft Prospect is absolutely 100% comparable to Peyton Manning as a draft Prospect

Only if we don't get Malik Willis.

Malik Willis is a loser Org move.

I do not understand any fans here interested in Willis. Dude was ass with the Titans and has barely played with the Packers.

If they want to bring him in on a backup deal with contingent money on starting then fine, but if they pay him $20m a year like Justin Fields to start then fire everyone.

There's no need to make this complicated.

There's nobody out there that is the future for this Org. Maybe they draft someone later to develop but they won't start.

Roll with Brissett. MLF said he wants a guy that can stand in the pocket and read defenses, well JB can do that. With an improved scheme, players back and hopefully an improved defense JB will do as well as anyone else we bring in, and if not, well we want good draft position for next year.

I'd love Stroud, but I don't see them moving on from him for Kyler. The fact of the matter is that even though Stroud is technically up for an extension, they can say "we just don't see it in you yet," and Stroud's camp is probably going to have to accept he didn't play well enough last season to really put the pressure on for a new contract right now. Plus they have the 5th year option for relative cost control.

Why hamstring themselves financially when they have a good contract to function under for the next two years? It's not like Kyler's a sure upgrade.
No, I don’t either, but just this morning Albert Breer had a report that confirmed my guess that they could move on from Stroud, and that teams have already inquired. Not that it was difficult to see. Like you said, they are not actually trying to move him.

However, if they do, they will have the same problem as the Cardinals now. They need a quarterback, and as I and many others have argued, Murray is super-talented, and surely many coaches know that. Again, he is a legend in Houston, so I could see them both appeasing their fans (if they let go of Stroud), and also believing they can fix Murray.

But I think my main point was that Ossenfort needs a quarterback. He is under pressure to win now, and he cannot win without a quarterback. He cannot move up to the #1 pick, so what is he going to do?

Pay a billion for Daniel Jones?

Mike Brown is way too stubborn to consider selling Burrow.

Buy Trevor Lawrence? Certainly not after Liam Coen has turned Lawrence’s career around.

Bring in Aaron Rodgers or Jimmy Garappolo? Not exactly a splashy job-extending move.

Reminds me of the girl wth the curl. When he’s good, he’s good, but when he’s bad he’s awful. Too much like a somewhat better version of Murray. No poise!
Agreed, but most times you have to go with the upside.

What exactly have you seen from Malik Willis that makes you want to pay him $25m a year to start?
He a gifted runner with a decent arm. I’m not certain he’s a long term solution at QB but on a 2 year contract he’s the only option I see that might make the Cards competitive in the short run. The Raiders aren’t going to give up Mendoza. This draft’s other choices are longer shots than Willis. The idea that wait until next year’s pool is illusional. I’m convinced this team with a DC who’s aggressive, like Martindale, will win 6 or 7 games, maybe more. To get a top guy they’ll have to compromise 3 years of drafts. They also bizarrely have too many costly contracts they’ll have to survive during that period. I certainly have little faith in the Titans ability to develop or evaluate a QB. I do think the info from the Packers will be crucial. If the Packers’ LaFleur says Willis can play in this league I’d buy it. In the long run it may be the cheapest route to fixing that problem.

Ugh. Gifted runner with a decent arm is a downgrade from Kyler.

He has 2 career games with more than 200 yards passing, and one of those is only by 2 yards. He has a 6/3 career TD/INT ratio.

He's shown absolutely nothing in the league and this is all massive conjecture based off a couple of decent games he had for the Packers.

It's a pretty small sample size to offer a large contract to Willis. The benefits of the Darnold and Jones moves have been the lost cost of entry. If you aren't getting that with Willis, it's not a good move to make.
Neither of those guys are available. LeFleur, as a decent HC, should be able to provide competent inside info. I’m just not in favor of writing off 2026, which would be the only outcome from the other options. What’s you plan to get a QB? Sign one of the broken down statue-like relics available in FA? Play Brissett who’s failed for 20% of the NFL franchises? I just don’t see the strategy option?

Writing off this season to think you will get a top qb in the 2027 draft is dumb. In the 2025 college preseason the thought was this would be a good draft for qbs but it isn't and certainly could happen again.
Exactly. We have JB. Bring in Joe Flacco. Draft a 3rd-round QB (Allar for me) and let's roll. That is, unless there's a chance to trade up for Mendoza, then you do it 10 times out of 10.

Going with JB makes the most sense also adding a 3rd round qb. I know you like Allar but there are 3 or 4 others that also have potential. The key will be scouting and pick the right one to develop. We have 3 early picks in the first 3 rounds so good drafing is important along with free agency. We might not be a playoff team but sure can be much better than this past crappy session.

Sure, and the most simple solution is to take Simpson at #3 overall. How do we know that there are not several other teams that are kicking themselves because they lost out on Dart and Jackson?

Well, this might be the biggest reason why fans disagree in this. I am not willing to wait a year. I am tired of embarrassment, and I don’t want to punt on the season a long time before the games even start. Obviously I can be forced to.

By the way, I am not saying I would not be okay with a mediocre season, as long as they are competitive. Maybe that is with Brissett, a second day draft pick, or somehow else. That might be okay.

Give it time. The analysts could easily rank him that high when the draft comes closer.
There are two problems with over drafting a QB:

1. He is projected later for a reason. He isn’t considered as sure a bet. But if you take him with the third pick you’re likely sticking with him at least two years. Which means you forego QBs the next season when they may be better. If you blew it on him you’ve set your timeline back more because you’re not trying to find his replacement yet.

2. And while you’re doing that you’re missing talent at other positions. And if you blew it over drafting him you missed out on other talent and then having to double down on that issue by having to draft another QB high, thereby missing out on additional elite talent at other positions. Snowballing the dearth of talent on the team.

Ouchie, you may be right. However, there are many cases where a good to great solution can be found in later rounds. Whether QB or other positions - it's still a gamble.

If we pick up a good draft pick for Kyler, I'm good with going with JB and drafting whoever MLF and Monti determine is the next quality QB. Get this guy in camp and see where it goes. If one full offseason shows he has the ability, you keep him. If not, he is a back up for a few years. If either JB or new said QB works out, we look for other pieces. If not, it means we are going to be picking early again next year and might be in a position to pick up one of the new and improved models at QB.

the Malik Willis sample size from GB is small, but its also really, really good.

IF the Cards sign him, it means MLF got a really good reco from this brother

I am less concerned about the headline $ of a contract (within reason) and more about the cost of getting out of it after 2 years.

My point is the worst move to make is one that connects you to an underperforming yet higher paid QB over multiple years. We have tried that and it doesn't work well.

Agreed!!! If we won 7 games next year and was competitive in most other games I would take that after this season…but is that even realistic without nolen?
