The Chicago White Sox aren't letting the fact that the pope is a fan of their team go by without making the most of it.
That includes a fantastic promotion on August 11.
That night, the White Sox will give away themed pope hats in honor of Pope Leo XIV. Fans will have to buy a special ticket for that game against the Reds to get this:

This is all about Pope Leo XIV's origin. He was born Robert Prevost, and he's from Chicago.
When he was elected the new pope to lead the Catholic church, much was made of what sports fandom he might have. And after some controversy, it was determined that Pope Leo XIV is a White Sox fan.
There's even footage of him attending a White Sox World Series game two decades ago.
Now, he resides in the Vatican, and he just celebrated his first Easter in the papacy.
It seems unlikely that Pope Leo XIV would have room in his schedule for a visit to Chicago for an Aug. 11 baseball game, but maybe the White Sox will send him one of the special hats.
The ceremonial hat worn by the pope is called the mitre. It wouldn't be practical on a ball field, but for fans attending a ballgame, it's quite the promotion.
