MLB owners are reportedly proposing a $245.3 million salary cap AND a $171.2 million payroll floor starting in 2027. A cap would be a massive change for baseball, but that payroll floor might be just as interesting. This next CBA fight could get ugly.

Best case scenario will probably be a lockout like in 2022 that took out some of spring training but I fear it will be a lot worse than what happened in 2022. It doesn't sound good right now. I would probably recommend to any baseball fans to start getting into minor league ball and Indy ball to get their baseball fix in case MLB loses a big chunk or all of the 2027 season. Apart from affiliated ball the Pioneer League, American Association, Pecos League etc. can be fun to follow and watch if you have teams nearby.

There will 100% be a lockout. I highly doubt the cap will happen, but the floor will definitely happen. "If" there is a cap, it will be much higher than proposed or there will be levels, similar to NBA (MLE, Luxury Tax, etc).

Voted no but I think it's going to be a 3rd option, partial season like the NBA lockout in 98.

Perhaps they should be looking at how the NBA does it. The NBA uses a soft cap with exceptions (like Bird Rights) that allow teams to exceed the limit to keep their stars, resulting in higher overall player salaries and competitive balance without destroying rosters.

The Dodgers have the money to weather and manipulate that. Good ideas, though.

NBA teams found out in a hurry. Their CBA is not easy to manipulate, especially long term.

That’s already what they do. They have the same system as the NBA right now. It’s just the money in baseball is crazy and the Dodgers found a loophole they are deferring over a billion dollars

Hey, long time, no see. I hope you are doing well.

The NBA showed how to close the loopholes. MLB can do it as well if they want. No guts, no glory.

However, I suspect the NBA players and perhaps even the owners, don't like the current format. It's too punitive.

MLB wastes no time and announces that the Field of Dreams game is returning on Aug. 12, 2027 with the Kansas City Royals playing the Boston Red Sox.
