Many MLB promotions feature something baseball-related, from bobbleheads and bats to baseball cards and replica World Series rings.
The Chicago White Sox went in a different direction for their promotion at Rate Field on Tuesday, however, and their fans seemed to love it.
The team gave out thousands of Pope hats to honor Pope Leo XIV, a native of Dolton, Illinois, and a famous White Sox fan. The custom hats were black and gold with a white sock logo in the middle.

The unique promotion was a smashing success. A nun threw out the first pitch, local clergy dotted the stands and Chicago drew a sellout crowd for its series opener against the Cincinnati Reds. The White Sox also used a Pope hat for their home run celebration.
The home team blew a 4-0 lead and lost 5-4 in 10 innings, but it didn't matter much. Their fans had a fun time wearing their Pope hats and were treated to a thrilling game, getting a cool souvenir in the process.
Overall, it was an unforgettable evening and experience for White Sox fans despite the game's disappointing outcome.
