Yes in some cases, but just look how Edge has preformed here an Jr. Sau (sp)

Both have done well with their new teams. The grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence.

i don't consider anything under 4 yds/carry "done well." and you can cry and wail all you want about our oline, but the only thing we have to compare with edge in the use of this line is jj, shipp, and a declined emmitt smith. we have no idea what a good rb could have done/could do behind this line (though i'm certainly not saying i think this line is good).

concentrating on the season total is meaningless if it wasn't effective, and too often our run game was not effective. no one fears edge. he's become relatively toothless.

and btw, that's a terrible analogy. if the seeds you've planted are just giving you a patchy lawn, you're going to look at some other seeds and say "well, those might give me a patchy lawn or not grow at all either, so i'll just stay with the patchy lawn" - ??? no, you at least try the other seeds. if they fail, you keep trying until you find the greener grass. you don't stay with the half dead lawn.

The Colts didn't cut him, they chose not to resign him.

Also, since when do 28 yr old HOFers get cut all the time?

when they aren't running with HOF ability any longer. BA-DUM-BUMP! thank you folks i'll be here all week! remember to tip your waitresses!

skkorp,

Respectfuly.....it's too early to give up on Blackstock. The kid is coming along. James is needed for at least one more year. And I would keep BJ, if he's not about to be a hot over priced commodity. JMHO!

my favorite thing about this thread is other that every single player as a potential cut has had at least one member of this board defend them or make an argument as to why they wouldn't get cut. talk about diversity!

It is interesting some of the players that had similar YPC as Edge. Clinton Portis, Willie Parker, Lendale White, Thomas Jones, Marshawn Lynch, Willis McGahee, Joseph Addai, were all within 0.3 YPC of Edge. He outdid Jones and Parker on rushing touchdowns, was outdone by Addai and Portis, and tied the rest. These are all IMO solid running backs with Addai probably the best and Jones probably the worst. Overall statistically Edge is probably between the 10th and 15th best RB in the league depending on which criteria you put the most value on. I don't go just by YPC because over half of the guys in front of Edge in YPC have less than 200 carries. In conclusion, Edge is not a strength of this team but he definately isn't the weakness. Finding a talented young back would be great but is not the most important position with how bad our pass defense was this year.

Just a note to let people know there were 14 guys tied for 9th in interceptions.

And out of those 14 guys (that are defensive backs) I would still take Hood over all of them.

Plus if we are looking a straight INT's Hood had more picks than Aosomiugha, Bailey, and my favorite Pro Bowler of all time Roy Williams.

The odd thing about that list is that of the 14 only 5 are CBs and one of the 5is our own "Antron" Rolle.

I was really down on Hood because of the Tampa game where he would go out of his way to avoid contact, actually running away from the ball carrier and the defenders trying to make the stop on a couple of plays. There were several situations where it looked like his getting involved in the play could have helped stop the ball carrier sooner.

Because of that I have been watching other CBs and how they compare and have seen that it is fairly common for them to shy away from hits on the larger guys and the scrums. There are exceptions of course, Rolle for instance doesn't have a problem sticking his nose in the pile. But I have changed my attitude toward Hood.
