ATLANTA ― If you've been watching the 2026 World Cup, then you may have likely seen Cape Verde's incredible run to the round of 32.
The Blue Sharks opened tournament play with a sensational 0-0 draw against tournament favorite Spain, which included seven saves by their goalkeeper, Vozinha. After that matchup, Cape Verde finished in a 2-2 draw with Uruguay before completing a third draw (0-0) against Saudi Arabia.
Despite the three draws, Cape Verde had enough to make it out of the group stage during its World Cup debut and into the round of 32. On Friday, July 3, they'll take on Argentina for a chance to reach the round of 16. If you're here, you may be wondering: where is Cape Verde located? USA TODAY has the answer.
Here's where you can find Cape Verde on a world map:
The Cape Verde Islands are located in the mid-Atlantic Ocean, about 300 miles from the west coast of Africa. Roughly 10 islands and five islets make up an archipelago divided into two groups: Barlavento (windward) and Sotavento (leeward).
The islands in the Barlavento group include Boa Vista, Sal, Santa Luzia, Santo Antão, São Nicolau and São Vicente. The islets Raso and Branco are also in the Barlavento group. The Sotavento group includes Maio, Santiago, Fogo and Brava.
Cape Verde has a population of roughly 500,000 people.
