MANHATTAN — Kansas State basketball will reportedly hire Belmont coach Casey Alexander as its next head coach, replacing Jerome Tang, who was fired during the 2025-26 season.
Alexander is coming off seven successful seasons at Belmont, his alma mater. He recently led the Bruins to a Missouri Valley Conference regular-season title in 2026.
Here are five things to know about the Wildcats' next coach:
Alexander led Belmont to a 226-166 record in his seven seasons in Nashville. That stint included three regular-season championships, two in the Ohio Valley and one in the Missouri Valley.
The Bruins' transition from the OVC to MVC was flawless, with Alexander leading the Bruins to 20-plus-win seasons each year. Belmont went 26-6 in 2026, earning the program's first MVC title. Belmont has consistently ranked among the MVC's best offenses throughout Alexander's tenure.
During Alexander's first year leading the Bruins, they won the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament after clinching the regular-season title, earning a berth in the NCAA Tournament, but the tournament was canceled due to the pandemic in 2020.
Despite all his success, Alexander never coached Belmont in a March Madness game. The MVC was largely a one-bid league for the four years after the Bruins transitioned, and they always came up short in Arch Madness. Last week, Belmont was upset in the MVC quarterfinals.
Alexander had the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year this season in Tyler Lundblade. Previous teams have also included notables such as Ben Sheppard (Indiana Pacers), Malik Dia (Ole Miss), Ja'Kobi Gillespie (Maryland; Tennessee), and Cade Tyson (North Carolina; Minnesota), who went on to have NBA or high-major success.
Before taking over at his alma mater, Alexander coached six seasons at Lipscomb, where he led the Bisons to their first-ever NCAA Tournament in 2018. The Bisons were 12-18 in the year before he took them over, and they were a regular-season champion with a 29-8 record in his final year with Lipscomb in 2018-19.
Alexander has coached a heck of an offense during his career. The Bruins had the third-best effective field goal percentage in the country this season and ranked second in 3-point shooting. Belmont has often ranked high in those categories during his career.
