The Washington Huskies are reportedly set to add a former Big Ten Conference assistant coach to Danny Sprinkle's coaching staff ahead of the 2026-27 season.

42-year-old DeAndre Haynes is set to join the UW program as an assistant coach following a five-year stint at Marquette University under Shaka Smart. Prior to his time in the Big East Conference, the Kent State graduate spent four years combined at Michigan (2017-19) and Maryland (2019-21), where Haynes was part of two conference championship teams.

UW has not confirmed the hire, which was first reported by The Field of 68 and later confirmed by CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein. It's unclear the position Haynes would fill on Danny Sprinkle's bench, though Quincy Pondexter's contract was set to expire in April, and there has been no reported extension for the former Husky forward, which could pave the way for Haynes to his replacement.

Haynes helped the Golden Eagles reach the NCAA Tournament all five seasons he was an assistant for Smart, something the Huskies haven't done since the 2018-19 season under then-coach Mike Hopkins, when the program reached the second round before losing to North Carolina.

The reported addition of Haynes is expected to help the Huskies both on and off the court as he'll likely be involved in coaching the guards and helping improve an offense that finished No. 11 in the Big Ten in scoring (77.1 PPG) and tied for No. 12 with Minnesota in shooting (45.8 percent).

Before Haynes embarked on his coaching career at Kent State in 2012, he played six years professionally in Europe for teams in Belgium, Hungary, Germany, and Finland. With Sprinkle's emphasis on recruiting, the expected hire of Haynes would give associate head coach Andy Hill another voice and set of eyes to help scout Europe and around the world.

Haynes finished his four-year college career as the Golden Flashes' all-time leader in assists (625), steals (229), and minutes (4,070).
