Fall camps are beginning to happen for Montgomery-area high school football teams, which only means that the Alabama high school football season is around the corner.

The season for River Region teams comes with a lot of excitement and expectations, with a handful of teams earning the right to be contenders for a title in the 2026 season. But what does it usually take for a team to be competitive?

The last time a Montgomery-area high school football player claimed the Alabama Sports Writers Association Mr. Football crown was back in 2012 when Jeremy Johnson won it with Carver-Montgomery.

The Montgomery Advertiser wants to know from its readers, which Montgomery-area high school football players in the 2026 season, have a chance to be named Mr. Football for the 2026 season with a readers poll presented by The Vance Law Firm.

Voting will open Sunday, July 26, and will be open until noon on Thursday, July 30.
