North Carolina’s 4-3 victory over USC on Sunday in the decisive game of the Chapel Hill Super Regional became the most-watched super regional game ever, according to ESPN.
ESPN reported that 1.3 million viewers watched the Tar Heels’ ninth-inning comeback, contributing to an average of 608,000 viewers across ESPN platforms for the super regionals — a 31% increase compared to last year. This marked the highest viewership for the round since 2009, when North Carolina swept East Carolina in two games at the Chapel Hill Super Regional, advancing to the College World Series.
Additionally, ESPN noted that the 2026 super regionals featured five of the top 10 most-watched telecasts for that round on record. Georgia’s 11-9 victory over Mississippi State in 10 innings on Sunday drew 1.6 million viewers, ranking as the second-most-watched super regional game, while Texas’ 6-4 win over Oregon on the same day attracted 1.3 million viewers, the sixth-most-watched.
North Carolina will open the College World Series at 7 p.m. ET against Ole Miss. This game is the second on opening day, following Troy versus West Virginia.
