I was trying to think of a legit comparison for Ty Simpson and in some ways he reminds me of Jake Plummer. I think Plummer was more of a “gamer” where Simpson is more of a student of the game, but physically they are very similar. People knocked Jake for his slim build and good but not great arm strength. Jake could throw some wobblers, but he also threw darts when he was really on. Simpson is probably as good or better in arm strength and overall athleticism. Obviously Jake was a local hero and had significantly more college starts, but they both seem to have an “it” factor. Simpson detractors point to his late season slide, but reports say he was dealing with either a health issue or injury that caused significant weight loss. When Simpson was really cooking earlier in the season, he had that ability to will Alabama to scoring drives and was willing to take a hit in order to deliver the pass.
Jake went around pick #41 (2nd round) and if the Cards can get Simpson at either 34 or slightly higher, the value seems fair.
