i like Simpson but not enough for the #3 pick in the draft. If he is there in round 2 that would work for me. He would sit most of the season behind Briskett. It also depends on who the Cards have as HC & OC.
Agree... might be worth trading up a few spots to get into bottom of the 1st round and get the extra year though if he's there.

I see Aj McCarron but what do I know.

What concerns me is how mediocre he is away from Saban Field.

Home: Completion: 70.4% Rating 165.2 YPA 9.4 Rushing 4.2

Away: Completion 59.2% Rating 131.3 YPA 6.2 Rushing 0.8

Neutral: 56.4% Rating 101.3 YPA 5.0 Rushing -1.2

Dane Brugler on Ty Simpson as an NFL prospect

Simpson put plenty of encouraging things on tape for NFL teams, and it is understandable why he would want to declare in such a light quarterback draft class.

But the fact that he’s made only 15 starts is tough. There is a very short list of NFL quarterbacks who panned out with such meager college experience. In the last 10 years, here are the quarterbacks drafted after making 15 or fewer starts in college: Anthony Richardson, Mitchell Trubisky, Dwayne Haskins.

However, Simpson is a unique case, because he is already 23 years old and grew up around a college program — his dad, Jason, has been head coach at Tennessee-Martin for two decades. Simpson is an efficient processor, and his mobility is an asset. He struggled with inconsistencies and turnovers over the second half of the season, but he also didn’t receive much help from Alabama’s middling offensive ecosystem.

Bama lacked a running game and a consistent offensive philosophy. Their coach is weak. Simpson needs to sit most of the season, but preferably not all of the season. He’s good at reading defenses and identifying where single coverage will happen. He’s not a great runner so happy feet isn’t an issue. Still he’s sharp enough to spot gaps in the pass rush and exploit them. He could very well become a successful NFL QB, though not likely a top 5 guy. If somehow the Cards move down 10-12 picks, I’d consider him if they got a couple of good picks for moving down.

AJ had similar issues with home / road splits but Simpson's are even more extreme. Alabama always plays a couple cup cakes at home
Home Schedule:

Louisiana-Monroe (3-9, Sun Belt)
Wisconsin (4-8, B1G)
Vanderbilt
Tennessee
LSU
Oklahoma
Eastern Illinois

So two tough teams (OK and Vandy)
Two good teams (TN and LSU)
One bad P2 team
2 cup Cakes

I'm reluctant to draft a quarterback early in the draft without much hope of them being of a top 5 guy. I don't want a middle of the pack type of quarterback like Murray was for much of his career. I want a quarterback who's better than that.
