Even though it’s only been a few weeks, it seems like ages ago I was on this site defending Gannon. Then came the Titans game. In 60 years that may have been the worst performance I’ve seen by an NFL team. The ease with which the Titans took Harrison out of the game convinced me Petzing had to go. Then for the third week in a row Rallis allowed the opposition to steal a game by showing the most passive resistance possible.
You can get one side of the ball wrong and it’s a weakness. Head Coaches typically are experts on only one side of the ball. If you get both sides wrong you have a major judgment issue. Add in taking a player apart on the sidelines instead of in private shows a lacks of leadership sophistication that cannot be accepted from a Head Coach. I’m not at all certain Bidwill has the intestinal fortitude it takes to absorb another hit, but there seems little option to keep a Head Coach if you’re changing both coordinators.
So who comes in. The Cards should have enough strength to be competitive by the defensive side alone. I’d hire Robert Saleh if he’d take the job. He failed to win with the Jets. A team that has been a disaster for awhile. You have to go back 15 years to find consistency in that franchise. Of course in AZ you have to accept an extraordinary history of failure under the same family ownership. Still Saleh is a very aggressive defensive mind and the Cards need that. Saleh mistakenly hired Nathaniel Hackett as the Jets OC to insure signing Aaron Rodgers. Injury led to disaster, but the problem was greater than that. Ossenfort must be certain a truly solid OC selection with QB development history(no, not to help Murray) must be chosen. If Saleh isn’t flexible; look elsewhere. Keeping Ossenfort reflects that I believe he’s made great strides with the roster. BTW Gruden has the talent, but his racist emails make his selection impractical. I do know there are owners who might take that risk. Racism is a deal killer for me.
Now the hard part. So far this season I’ve made 3 major mistakes. Not all of them will be apparent to everyone reading this. It’s mostly not about articles, but it is board related. For years I’ve advised player to know when it’s time. For me that time has come. It’s not that I’ll disappear, but I need to carry a much lower profile. I’ll still toss in comments here and there. It’s time to stop preaching. In the past I’ve backed off only to be drawn back in. This time I think it’s for real. I won’t innumerate the reasons for the errors. Suffice it to say, it’s just time. Thanks for putting up with me to those who’ve agreed with me and those who haven’t. Diversity of opinion is necessary to have a worthwhile board. It’s been a great way to wind down a career. I hope all of you are around long enough to get the team you deserve.
