First, if you have not done so please visit this thread to vote upon movies to remove from the Kumite master list: The not-so-Ultimate Popcorn Flick Kumite: The Culling!

Ok then...I've compiled a list of suitable replacement films to stand-in for the films dropped from The Culling based upon previous comments during the Voir Dire process.

Vote for the ones you would like to see added to the Kumite, multiple votes are not only allowed..but encouraged!

Priority will be established by the total quantity of votes, so be sure to vote for all the films you'd like to see added. If there's one not listed that you'd like to see, be sure to vote "Other" and be sure top specify what that movie is.

This poll will be open for 3 days.

Iron Man has more votes than Independence Day? Weird. In the dictionary under "popcorn flick" is a movie poster for ID4. :)

I won't vote for it because I consider it one of the worst movies ever made and would barf, not eat popcorn, watching it.

I can see your point but to me, it's clearly a popcorn movie and it's one of the most popular. Even if I hated it (which I don't) I'd be voting to include it in a list of popcorn movies. You still have the option of giving it a thumbs down when the vote comes around.

Here's one for "other" I just remembered:

Speed

Yeah, that definitely belongs in the list. I'd also add Twister, Armageddon, Avatar, Titanic, Jaws, The Sting, Transporter 2, Towering Inferno, Smokey & The Bandit, Swiss Family Robinson, Iron Giant, Jurassic Park, Top Gun, The Fugitive, Red, Salt, Mission Impossible (& MI Ghost Protocol), Apollo 13, Air Force One, The Mummy, Tomb Raider, The Lord of The Rings (all), Harry Potter (all) and several Bond movies (Brosnan & Craig films at a minimum).

Many of these have no chance but I think they all qualify as popular popcorn movies.

as much as I have a soft spot for ID4, i'd put Iron Man up there over it.

still... Goodfellas? a Popcorn flick? y'all's got weird definitions of popcorn flicks.

Speed's a great popcorn flick.

I don't consider horrible B movies to be popcorn movies. Just my opinion though.

I'm with you, no way is Goodfellas a popcorn movie. My wife voted Godfather 2 onto the list and I feel the same way about it. It's probably my favorite all time movie but I just can't call it a popcorn movie.

I agree Iron Man is a popcorn flick, and it is a better movie than ID4. However, on the popcorn scale, ID4 IMO is much more a popcorn movie than Iron Man.

+1.

Not saying it is wrong, but what is the definition.

Jacob's list of movies is spiraling out of control, taking on a life of its own, etc., etc.

I would also put the Magnificent Seven on the list with Goodfellas because I think of those as actual good movies.

If Goodfellas, and Magnificent Seven are on the list, then you gotta put Cool Hand Luke on the list, and Jaws. But again, they might be outside the popcorn flick genre.

Not to mention are comedies allowed ? Cause then this list will get very long very quick.

Big Lewbowski
Any Mel Brooks film - aka blazing saddles
Slapshot

We are talking about drawing a line in the sand here dude.

With 8 cuts coming I just thought of one that I enjoy that could fit the bill

Pretty much pick a movie from the "Fast & the Furious" line and plug it in .... all have pretty much the same themes ..... i'd lean towards 1, 3 or 5

If I had my way, it would be the first one.

For me, a "popcorn flick" doesn't have anything to do with how much I like it. It's more about big-budget summer-fun movies.

Animal House=Guys' Movie (not popcorn flick)
Independence Day=Popcorn Flick

Polls closed...here's the eight replacements:

Cliffhanger
Independence Day
Iron Man
Major League
Men In Black
Roadhouse
Speed
Star Trek (2009)

I took the liberty of putting Speed in for Animal House.

I may have broken a rule doing it, but at least I'm being transparent about it.
