he's played 2 games against the same team so pretty early but some first reactions to Cooper Flagg.
For 18 he's remarkable, he belongs. He had an absolutely horrible shooting first game and didn't hang his head, played defense, rebounded, impressive at his age. yes he's playing against guys who in many cases won't ever make an NBA roster but he belonged right away.
The other stuff, he's clearly not a good NBA 3 point shooter yet, but he wasn't right away at Duke and got better, as the scouts say his shot is not broken, just needs more reps, also seems like he's working on shooting the ball on the way up or without really jumping which he didn't do in college or HS and that's going to take time.
He can't get by any decent defender off the bounce without a full head of steam, he dribbles too high and he's just not very laterally maneuverable so he needs that full run to just get his shoulder by, once he gets his shoulder past you it's usually over. I still think they're wrong to play him on the ball until Kyrie comes back but if they do, that will be his issue especially going left he just can't go by NBA defenders in the halfcourt. Which is why he settles for the fallback so much which worked in HS and college because most players couldn't get to his release and play him to drive, but NBA players are longer and more athletic and even in SL we saw several times guys bothered that shot.
Better passer than I thought he'd be right away. He's going to be an elite defender, not right away but he'll be good right away. again the best thing about him is he just belongs, he's going to have times where he just can't make a shot and if he's playing on the ball he'll struggle at times there but he won't let that stop him.
