Since all agree that Khaman Maluach does not yet belong on an NBA court, which Suns center should start--Richards or Williams?

I wanted to say Richards because he has experience playing with the remaining 2024-25 Suns, but it's a better idea if he and WIlliams compete for the spot in preseason.

All? I don't see a consensus. Can you try speaking for yourself instead of grouping everyone together?

Maluach belongs but anyone who thought he'd be a day 1 starter were fooling themselves. I was and am incredibly high on Maluach but I never thought he'd be a starter this year unless out of necessity.

Williams started ahead of Richards in Charlotte and should do so here. Not even a question there. Richards is a backup at best.

And I think Khaman belongs on an NBA court, given the right opportunities.

Dude, there is no way Richard’s starts over Williams if both are healthy. This isn’t even open to question imo.

Good, cause Richards isn't that great. Nice to know we have upgraded the C spot.

The question now is will Brooks (gag) and Dunn start as forwards or will someone else compete for SF/PF spot?

I think we will see Oso and Fleming in small ball lineups at forward/center.

Hey, what's this from Dillon Brooks about a "miscommunication" trade? Did the Suns try to trade for Brooks before? Duane Rankin, who interviewed Brooks, claims he "Start[ed] off saying being with Phoenix has been "written in stone" since 'miscommunication' trade that didn't go through when he was in Memphis."

Yes - we originally tried to trade for him - but believe it or not Memphis thought we were talking about a different Brooks on their roster. Eventually they agreed to send us Oubre instead.

I expect those two to start and be interchangeable.

Beal is giving back $13.9 million out of the $110 million on the final two years of his contract to complete the buyout with the Suns, who will likely waive-and-stretch the remaining salary over five years, sources said.

The move allows Beal to serve as a major addition to a playoff contender in the Western Conference -- and gives the Suns increased team-building flexibility by taking them out of the first and second apron, providing access to more tradeable draft picks in the future, and opening up part of the mid-level exception to utilize.

stretch sucks
This will help them get under the Apron though. That means they can aggregate salaries in trades again. They don't have to worry about future picks dropping to the bottom of the round and they can use exceptions again. This is a win even if we have to carry dead money.

Let me add this here as well. The Suns have to get under the second tax apron or have their 2032 first round pick frozen.

This is the essence of it. It's all about the second tax apron.

we need to get outta both aprons if we wanna go streakin but now we're paying alimony to a one night stand - best of a bad situation? maybe - but i would've moved heaven and earth (greyson and oneale and whoever else) and just sucked it up for two years while developing our youth

Portland gambled and recovered very well. Too bad Scoot looks like a bust but ultimately they came out ahead.
