I think the NFL got this wrong. IMO, it was both players or the Patriots linebacker who should be fined.

There was no need for the severity of the hit on Dart.

That’s a great/clean hit. If you want to avoid that get out of bounds sooner.

The player had already stepped out of bounds when hit. Regardless, there was no need for the severity of the contact.
This and I called it a dirty play at the time

No need to be that hard of a hit when he's clearly stepping out

Trying to injure the QB is something the NFL is trying to avoid so we don't have to watch backup QBs

I understand the defender was closing at full speed, so I understand the contact, but still, he doesn't need to lay the quarterback out like that when he was stepping out of bounds.

100% this

And they don't throw a flag

What kind of message are they sending?

QBs are only protected when we choose or they have to be an upper level QB?

I'm still haunted by the Saints purposely taking out Warner

With 19.0 sacks in 12 games, Browns defensive end Myles Garrett needs only four sacks to break the single-season sack record.

Coincidentally, he’s facing on Sunday a quarterback who is sacked, on average, four times per game.

Rookie Cam Ward has been sacked 48 times in 12 games.

Four years ago, Bengals receiver Ja’Marr Chase instantly emerged as one of the best receivers in football. He’s on the verge of joining a very small club of pass-catchers.

Chase, with 971 receiving yards, needs only 29 to get to 1,000. Via NBC Sports research, Chase will become the fifth player in league history to generate 1,000 or more receiving yards in each of his first five seasons.

That football is a contact sport.
Okay then let's open it back out and let the DBs lay out the WRs

No protection for the QBS

It used to be played that way

But now it's different whether you agree or not

He was going out of bounds at the time and a shove would have worked

How did you fell about Warner that day?

He’s not a QB he’s a runner at that point. Warner was a blindside hit while Dart was in complete control of avoiding the contact.

Legal hit.

The question is excessive force. Because you can doesn't mean you should.

The referees took sides when they fined the Giants player. They might have been better off leaving it alone if they were inclined to be righteous.

So you are okay with them barely touching a face mask or their helmet and they get a penalty but it's okay to let them take a hard shot on a QB when it's obvious he's going out of bounds?

When quarterbacks are defending the hit that tells you it’s on Dart. QB’s have it easier than they ever have in today’s league.

Everybody wants to take out the quarterback when playing defense. I understand that.

But the NFL is all into player safety and then they let this slide. See the above post by @BullheadCardFan.

I started watching back in 1964 so I know all the old times and how they used to hit back then. The NFL decided to protect quarterbacks and receivers and you have to go with the rules. That's now and that was then

There was nothing illegal about that hit so they didn’t let anything slide.

Legality has a lot of gray areas.

If the NFL was going to look the other way, then they shouldn't call the second foul. The NBA had this right years ago.
