For the Texas Tech baseball team, the last three games of a 15-game homestand are the first three of the Big 12 schedule.

Tech (11-5) and Kansas (10-6) open conference play this weekend with a series at Dan Law Field/Rip Griffin Park. Game times are 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 13; 2 p.m. Saturday, March 14; and 1 p.m. Sunday, March 15.

Last year, Kansas went 43-17, including 20-10 in the Big 12, tying for second-most victories in the program's history and most wins in conference play. Dan Fitzgerald was Big 12 coach of the year and got a six-year contract after the season. He's now in his fourth year leading the Jayhawks.

Of the 10 position players who started at least 33 games last year for the Jayhawks, only two return: preseason all-Big 12 first baseman Brady Ballinger, who hit .353 with 16 home runs and 56 runs batted in last year, and second baseman Dariel Osoria, who batted .324 with 9 homers and 47 RBIs. Ballinger's at .290 so far with 12 RBIs, and Osoria's struggling at .172 with 8 RBIs. Neither has homered.

The Jayhawks have gotten more production from right fielder Jordan Bach (.373-4-12), catcher Augusto Mungarrieta (.269-3-12) and shortstop Tyson Leblanc (.207-2-13).

Tech has four of the Big 12's top nine RBI leaders: shortstop Linkin Garcia (.403-3-28), left fielder Logan Hughes (.368-4-26), third baseman Connor Shouse (.379-4-26) and first baseman Robin Villeneuve (.367-6-22).
