First of all, it's F'n GREAT. Singer really delivers.

Couple of things--good and bad.

1. Singer catches Supes in a bunch of iconic poses--including the original Action Comics cover. Sweet.

2. Routh IS Superman just as Reeves was. Great job. He does a better Superman than he does Clark Kent, in which he seems to be doing Reeves doing Kent. But, not a lot of Kent in the film.

Completely agree.

Great Great Movie.

Awesome picks to play Superman and Lex.

Saw it yesterday. Set my expectations too high I guess. 4 great scenes equalling about 7 minutes, all to be seen on commercials. The other 2 1/2 hours, garbage. Well thats being a bit harsh, it was decent and worth the price of admission (matinee), but disappointing for sure.

2 stars.

Eh, it was ok. The whole time i'm thinking.. god If i just wear my glasses and hair a little different, am I a different person?

And while all this was going around I didn't hear one person at the newspaper say "Where the hell is Clark!?!" Superman is a stalker too... If I were him, i'd have found a hotter woman to stalk too..

Those are complaints about Superman in general though. You go into it buying that people somehow don't get the connection between clark and superman. It's the silly thing about the Superman franchise that you just have to take on face value.

I saw it on Sunday and it was seriously disappointing.

As far as Super Hero films I would rank it:

Far below Batman Begins

Below X-Men 1 and 2
Below Spiderman 1 and 2
Below the Crow

What really bothered me about this film is what an asshat Singer turns Superman into. He basically writes it so Superman is sleeping with Louis Lane and ditches her without saying goodbye.

Then when he gets back he does completely turn into a stalker, but hey it is okay because it is Superman. Whomever this is, it isn't Superman.

Sadly it was so boring that the guy next to me fell asleep twice during the movie.

Visually the movie is nice to look at and Spacey does a decent job as Lex. That is about it.

Why is this so hard to understand though??

That movie was great. The story was good, acting good, effects were good. You can pick anything apart if you want to, but I'm pretty sure most people who saw it liked it.

It's interesting to me that on the same thread people critisize Superman for A) being too "perfect," and B) having flaws. Can't have it both ways, folks, so not everyone is going to be happy.

Personally, when people complain about him being a "stalker" (which I think is a little harsh) or him leaving Lois in the lurch, I think that adds depth to what could easily be a very one-dimensional character. He's not human, but he does have humanity's flaws--he rises above them most of the time, but he's not perfect.

Also, don't you think if he knew Lois was pregnant, he would have stuck around? And, as long as we're on that subject, I guess he she started sleeping with Mrsden pretty quickly after Supes took off if he didn't have any idea that it wasn't his kid. She didn't exactly waste anytime, either.

Saw it last night and thought it was much better than Pirates II.

Saw it this afternoon and was pretty disappointed. I like Brandon Routh as Superman and the music, but for some reason I didn't like Kate Bosworth and especially didn't like Kevin Spacey. I guess I like him playing more subtle characters like Verbal Kint and John Doe.

The main thing I have to say about the movie was that it was boring. It was almost a remake of the first movie. It doesn't help that the character of Superman is a bore. The guy is invincible except when exposed to one single thing: Kryptonite. The only thing I hope for is that the next movie will be different.

I would put this on par with the first Spider-Man, maybe. But certainly not better than Batman Begins, X2 and Spider-Man 2, which are all superior films.

The comics have endured for dozens of years. I find it hard to believe every installment was simply:

1) Superman kicks everyones butt
2) Superman is exposed to Kryptonite and gets his butt kicked
3) The kryptonite is taken away and Superman kicks butt again

I certainly hope that isn't the storyline of every single movie. At least Superman II allowed him to give up his powers for Lois--doesn't seem like that will happen with this "new" Superman. The only other thing I can think of is turning him bad, but it appears that's something that Spider-Man is doing, and the last time Superman was bad, he was acting opposite Richard Pryor. You do the math. :D

i'm thinking his demanding better tinted moisturizer makes him look wimpy, but whatever.

Superman star has tantrum after make-up made him look 'wimpy'

By CLEMMIE MOODIE, Daily Mail 22:00pm 13th July 2006

As America's favourite super hero, Superman is the epitomy of manliness.

But it appears the actor drafted in to play Clark Kent in the new movie sequel is more concerned with his make-up than saving the world.

American star Brandon Routh was left furious this week after he complained the make-up used on his face at a press conference made him look pale, artificial and 'a bit wimpy'.

The actor became annoyed when he saw pictures of himself posing up next to his Lois Lane, Kate Bosworth, who, he said, looked much more natural and sunkissed.

After the Superman Returns press conference at London's Dorchester Hotel on Wednesday afternoon, Routh's aides had new darker foundation flown in for him to use in time for last night's premiere in Leicester Square.

"To say that Brandon was livid with his make-up is an understatement," said an aide.

"The problem arose when he posed for photographs beside his co-star Kate Bosworth - who has a fantastic tan - and he realised that he looked pale and artificial in comparison.

"Basically there was a problem with the shade of his tinted moisturiser - it was slightly lighter than his natural skin tone - so he asked for an expensive fake tan moisturiser to be used instead.

"A waterproof, gradual build one which develops over time was eventually found and has given him a natural, all-over golden glow.

"This is Brandon's first major movie premiere and in front of thousands of screaming fans, it is understandable that he wanted to look like a tanned, Adonis of a superhero and not a pale-skinned wimp."

In stark contrast to his all-action counterpart, Routh refused to tackle the rather embarrassing topic head-on.

Instead, he ordered his personal assistant to do it for him. So, within minutes the film company's specialist make-up artist had been hauled in and instructed to make Routh more tanned.

The guy wearing tights with vibrant colors and red cape is the epitomy of manliness?

Routh will forever "be" superman now. I can't blame him for requesting better make-up--and being upset over poor makeup. If he looks "wimpy," he'll lose his livelihood. He won't ever be a "real" actor--he'll always be associated with superman, and thus, always needs to look the part in public appearences.

JMHO.

I recently watched this. It was okay. It was asking a lot to follow the Spiderman and Batman movies that have come out over the last few years. I really hope they can come up with a better story for the sequel.

Exactly. I watched Batman Begins first, so I was expecting a lot more than I should have from this movie.
