I'm waiting to see the details. I suspect the Suns will gain a financial advantage and perhaps it is not guaranteed.

Haywood Highsmith has agreed to a one-year deal with Phoenix Suns, his agent Jerry Dianis informs
@azcentral
.

Was previously waived as he was partially guaranteed $1M out of a $3M on the second year of a two-year deal.

Suns now back to 15 players on standard 15-man roster.

Training camp begins Sept. 29. #Suns

Still trying to put this re-signing in context. There was a reason the Suns did it this way.

Perhaps the new deal is not guaranteed or only partially guaranteed.

I talked about it already. It has to do with how the league handles veteran minimum deals for 1 year. They'll save a million, at least.

Just for reference, the league covers $1 million or so of veteran minimum deals, not the team itself, so it counts towards the cap but it saves the owner a little bit of money but that's only for 1 year vet minimum deals and Heywood was on a 2 year, since he had that option. If he clears waivers then we can bring him back and have like 60-70% of his salary covered by the league. So it does make some sense financially when we're talking about guys who aren't difference makers. Get the savings where we can. After Ish lost a bunch of cash recently this is small savings that likely won't effect the team.

This article may help explain it some, it gives examples.
