Highsmith considered multiple playoff teams before reaching an agreement with the Suns on Saturday, sources said. Known as a gritty, two-way player when healthy, he joins a Phoenix team that is 32-23 at the All-Star break -- 1.5 games out of the 5th seed.

Solid buyout add. Another smaller wing but can make up for it some with length and knows how to play on both ends to fill gaps. Fits in, as you'd expect for anyone the Suns add at this point.

Yes Suns kind of player they value what he can bring to the team. Next year is not fully guaranteed. Suns wanted him and if he plays well they can have him for next year as well.

BREAKING: The Suns are signing forward Haywood Highsmith, per Shams Charania.

Highsmith averaged 6.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists over 74 games with the Heat in 2024-25.

I assume Highsmith will take Anthony's roster spot. Still leaves PHX with 1 open roster spot. Tax wise - Highsmith will cost $780k if officially signing today. Leaves approx $670k.My hunch that Suns will likely wait until Bouyea has used all his 2way games looks good.

On a veteran minimum deal (especially if it is a longer one) Highsmith is kind of a steal.

Furthermore he offers some insurance if Allen and/or O'Neal get traded in the offseason.

Just as an FYI, he hasn't played at all this season, although he was slated to return from a knee injury his past week:

Highsmith has not played yet in the 2025–26 season due to an August 2025 surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee and a subsequent rehab setback involving knee swelling in October. Before being waived by the Brooklyn Nets on February 5, he had already progressed to participating in full-contact 5-on-5 drills and was originally targeted to return on February 11.

I believe it's insurance for next season, when Goodwin might become too expensive to retain and RO shopped off for luxary cap reason, with this season as potential bonus.
And, he'd be the type of defender our young guys Dunn and Fleming ought to emulate.
