i really DON'T like that lineup one bit. we are pretty screwed for the future.
Jackson is getting old, and beyond next year, he wont be good fore much more than a bench player.
Q isnt really made to play SG. he doesnt match up well with many other quicker guys.
the bench itself is beyond ugly. McCarty doesnt do much of anything. Hassel would be nice i guess. Voskuhl is a good guy, but not much of a player. Hunter still needs to learn a lot (how to shoot/hang onto the ball when going up for a shot.)

i really would only go for a Marion/Q/#21 for Garnett/Hassell. if needed i would include Hunter, but we NEED to keep JJ at all cost.

Q has played SG his entire career except for this season. He can play it just fine.

Jackson is getting old, but he starts just out of respect. Besides him, how else are we screwed for the future? Q and Hassel would play together on the wings most often. McCarty is probably gone anyways, I just put him in there. We would definitely have to fill out the roster a little more, but we would have the MLE and the #14 pick to do so.

I definitely like the Q/Marion ideas better, I just don't think that Minny does it. I would prefer to give our guys another year anyways - they earned it. (Of course, if getting KG became a legit possibility it would HAVE to be looked into at the very least by the FO.)

Ug, no. I hate that starting 5. Amare and KG would clash. They both want/need the ball.

About JJ and Marion being the two best defenders - I agree here, but you are missing what we get. KG is a DPOY candidate all the time. The guy is a great defensive talent, and a monster on the boards. Hassell is a great perimeter defender. We lose defense, but I think we get more back overall.

KG and Amare may clash, but it would be because of off court personalities (I think they would be fine). KG is one of the most unselfish players in the game today. He does not need the ball in his hands to be effective. In fact, he often lets other players try to take over games. The knock on him is usually that he is not assertive enough, in Phoenix he wouldn't have to be.

The other stuff I responded to in my other post - I think. For the record, again, I want to give this team another year. This is all in fun. :p

i just looked at that trade and saw a hole in the SF spot, and a bench that was pretty useless outside Barbs and Hunter. and along side that we'd have an outragiously high payroll.

but could you imagine the hype and media attention a starting lineup of Amare/Garnett/JJ/Jaric/Nash would get?

ESPN would be creaming their pants EVERYNIGHT from when that trade happened to opening night. it would be bigger than Shaq going to Miami, TMac in Houston, or pretty much any trade in the past 5 years.

It would be about 2 million higher than it will be when we start JJ at 8mil a year. We would definitely have to fill holes with the MLE - the same way the other lineups did.

I agree the media would go nuts with that lineup - which is why the Suns, along with every other team, would have to look at trade options.

Amare is a very likely 28ppg 11rpg 2.5bpg 57% fg type of player very soon.
I dont think we need KG at all, the system doesnt suit him and him and Amare will clash.

And the team only needs a few tweaks here and there, not a complete revamp. We won 62 games and set new records in offense for a decade. We dont need too many changes. We just need to add a conventional system, that will allow Hunter/(insert name here) to be an effective interior defender, a presense, someone to change shots and alter dpeople penetrating... because if anything...

The spurs has just shown how the suns can be beaten easily... attack the interior constantly.

I really want Dalembert or Chandler, I would trade Q, Barbosa and Hunter for that type of player. But I dont think anyone will bait, they want a piece of either Marion or JJ. Like I said, I love Marion, but if he will bring in a Chandler or a Dalembert + other good role players, its worth it since Marion will get his dues as a 2nd option on another team.

I think, nobody in Min in his right mind would trade KG for Marion + JoeJ, not to mention lesser offers. What would that Wolves' team look like? Is there an Amare-caliber draft propect in the next year's draft that is worth tanking the season for like what Cavs did to get LBJ? :biglaugh:

I love Garnett. He's a top 5 player, with a boatload of NBA and playoff experience and not even 30 yet. I also think he would take second fiddle to Stoudamire, and would be a great locker room guy, if the Suns ownership continued to show a commitment to winning, he's very frustrated in Minny. I don't think the Wolves would do the trade for just Marion and Richardson, they'd have to have a first round pick in one of the next two drafts.

I do not think that Garnett will be traded.

If a superstar got traded he had either to demand trade or to have off-court issues.

BTW, I'm not sure at all that he would be the one who would have to be the 2nd option between him and Amare.

finally we have some common sense. There's no way Minnesota would trade Kevin Garnett to the Phoenix Suns unless the trade included Amare Stoudemire. That isn't going to happen, and KG in Phoenix isn't going to happen. at least it isn't going to happen next year. :)

The Minnesota Timberwolves were bad last year. However the year before they were in the Western Conference finals. Even without Latrell Sprewell I suspect they will at least make the playoffs next year.

A team with Amare Stoudemire, KG, and Steve Nash would be absolutely awesome. KG and Amare would complement each other very well. KG defends, rebounds, passes the ball, and has a nice jump shot. I don't think you could find a more perfect teammate for Amare. Throw in Steve Nash, Q/JJ, Jim Jackson, and they a few decent bench players, and you have the next NBA championship favorite.

Now start laughing Eric off the board!

We must keep the starting 5 in tact. Find a passing PG to back up Nash, move LB to the 2. Try to find another athletic big. These things CAN be accomplished.

The Suns can't AFFORD to keep the starting 5 in tact and add pieces that will help the team SIGNIFICANTLY.

Next year both teams will be a year older and in this case, that helps the Suns (though I doubt Nash can have another year quite like this one). How long can TDs ankles hold up? Will SA have as deep of a bench as they do next year? What will Amare be like after another off season- his D and rebounding will hopefully be improved. Q has a lot to work on, his mid range game, defense and consistency. We have a young team full of potential.

If I wouldve told you before the preseason the Suns would finish 62-20, have the MVP, Coach of the Year, 3 All Stars, a player on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd team NBA, the NBA Executive of the Year, and make it to the WCF, you are telling me that wouldve been a let down? No one expected this. Next year, Im sure the Suns will be better...just need to deepen that bench

I'm pretty sure the Suns will be better next year but so will SA and many other teams.

Okay, I'm going to make a couple of comments.

As long as we're talking about this ridiculous scenario, I'm opposed to packages that include both Marion and Johnson. That price is simply too high. Remember that, among everything else, Johnson is the Suns' primary backup PG. If they were to do a two-for-one trade and bring in Garnett, they'd have yet one more hole in the rotation to fill. Richardson is much easier to replace than Johnson.

I know the trade idea is laughable. In general, however, I think it is a mistake to declare that Garnett won't be traded except for another superstar. Minnesota is in big trouble and they have to do something. I'm sure there will also be rumors this summer about Szczerbiak and fillers for Kidd, but I don't see New Jersey going for that. Trading Garnett is a last resort and I doubt they have gotten to that point yet, but it has to be crossing their minds.

It's also not correct to insist that Minnesota would get another megastar in return. Trades involving two top-ten players virtually never happen -- I can't even think of a single example right now -- for the simple reason that usually teams don't want to trade such elite players. The only remote possibility I can think of for a Garnett trade would be Nowitzki, but other than that, which top-ten players are conceivably available? None.

The more common pattern is a big star traded for a combination of good players. Shaquille O'Neal "had" to be traded last summer, so that was a special case, but even so I think we were all amazed at how little he fetched. Then there was the Webber trade last year, which is similar even though Webber has injury issues. McGrady was worth only Francis and fillers, and regardless of what we thought a year ago, I hope we'd agree now that Marion's value is higher than Francis's. Vince Carter is suddenly looking like an elite player, and he didn't bring much of anything in a trade. We all remember the deal that sent Barkley to Houston, and keep in mind that the Suns that year (in spite of their rocky start) were in much better shape than the Wolves are now.

As far as we know, Minnesota's relationship with Garnett hasn't gotten that bad yet. But if they've dug themselves a hole that they can't get out of, they're better off trading Garnett sooner rather than later.

If people want Olowacrappy so bad, I am sure they could get Sczerbiak and Olowacrappy for Marion no problem.

Good lord, talk about hitting the panic button, Marion for Chandler?? We need to aquire MORE defense and rebounding, not trade away the best defender and rebounder we have.

Wolves won't trade KG. They will trade Wally and Cassell and let Sprewell go. They will rebuild around KG as he is their franchise.

But why look somewhere else and trade away our core... when we have our own atheletic big... sitting on the bench.

Thats Hunter...
Bingo!

Many of us were afraid, as we were building the best record in the NBA, that what got us to the post-season wouldn't get us through the post-season.

Whether Hunter or another quick, but legitimate, Center, he needs to play 35 minutes per game next season, and be on the floor at the beginning and the end of each game.

If you need to make an adjustment during the playoffs, you're going to lose. Not just against the Spurs, but Detroit or Miami as well.

The other benefit is returning our future All World Power Forward to his natural position and our Small Forward to his position as well.

Shawn Marion didn't disappear against the Spurs. He's a 6'7" Small Forward playing the "4" and the novelty caught up with us.

If Hunter had a role before the post-season, it wouldn't have been like training camp during the playoffs. And Jackson for Johnson wouldn't have been as significant a loss to the team.

Good Points. I don't know if a trade for Garnett is realistic, but your idea is far from laughable. It certainly is an interesting thought.

We just had the best record in the NBA, 3 all-stars, MVP, a soon to be MVP, coach of the year and everything else. It reminds me of our 92-93 season and our biggest mistake (the mistake Jerry seemed to always make with only the best intentions at heart) is to break apart the team and try to add what's missing. That's NOT going to get it done.

The trick to pulling off championships is not to keep swaping players in and out because you're going to have a tough time building chemistry and consistency with an always changing team. You've got to get the right combination of players to give you a chance at winning (which we have) and then give them time to gel. In only one season we've accomplished SOOO much, imagine what we'll do with some more time under their belts?

If we had kept that 93 team together we would have won a Championship by now, but every time we didn't win the title we started getting rid of people and it killed our chances (just ask Barkley his opinion on this).

Just add some depth to this team and we'll be fine.....(sure wish we would have drafted Iguodala...he'd have been helpful on Manu and Parker).

Chandler is going to be a free agent, so trading for him is a moot point. I am saying, if we lose JJ, which I don't want to happen, acquiring Chandler would be a smart move, and shore up our center position with an athletic rebounding, defensive minded big man.

As usual I don't really need to respond because Joe wrote exactly what I was thinking. By himself, Garnett would greatly improve our defense and defensive rebounding. I could see him outletting to Nash, to Stoudemire for many easy buckets. He is a good shooter that Stat can pass out to and who can run the pick and roll with Nash when Stat is out.

Minnesota would be crazy to trade him because he often carries the entire team, leading in almost every statistic. Also, it is very unwise for a small market team like the TWolves to get rid of such a marketable player for Marion who also puts up great numbers but is not nearly as marketable and would lead the team into obscurity.

I like Shawn and I think changing this team's core would be insane. Let them build on their great chemistry.

Good point (although, I don't think they'll win it). However, your talking about a Heat team that didn't have the pieces to win it all. They barely made the playoffs last year in the WEAK East. Obviously, if your team isn't competitve enough to win it all, then you're going to have to make changes.

We're talking about a Suns team that put up the best record in basketball after only 1 season together. You don't break that apart (like we did the '93 team).

Good points. But somewhere I think this line of reasoning is lacking something, I just can't figure out what it is. :D
