Okay, it isn't unreasonable or laughable that Kevin Garnet might get traded. However he isn't going to get traded next season, and he certainly isn't going to get traded for Shawn Marion. It's going to take more. Someone here pointed out that the Orlando Magic traded McGrady for Steve Francis, Mobley, and change last summer. McGrady did not have near the value of Kevin Garnet, and remember that Orlando also to look that deal over our offer of Shawn Marion, the #7 draft pick, and Casey Jacobsen. Orlando demanded Shawn Marion and JJ, and I wouldn't think the Timberwolves would expect anything less.

I dont want KG anywhere near the Suns line-up. We have Nash to make plays for us and we have perimeter shooters and we have a tremendous top 3 inside player.

KG is a bit of all those above... he doesnt excel in any of them. So he is better off in a team where those things are lacking.

Anyways, I think a Chandler-type player would be perfect.

But why look somewhere else and trade away our core... when we have our own atheletic big... sitting on the bench.

Thats Hunter...

The guy should be starting, the team next year should be 50/50 with the small ball and a conventional line-up. Obviously some teams (Spurs) are small ball proof since they can play small ball with the best of them. (Duncan, Horry, Barry/Bowen, Ginobili, Parker)

We need to have a conventonal line-up, and we need to get this team to learn to win with a conventional line-up.... Mix that in with our Small Ball... and we have a team that is Piston/Spur/Pacer/Miami beater.

You get my "Post of the Day" award. Congrats!

IF we are talking about a Garnett to Phoenx trade i can actually see it working out OK. it would take a few other moves to round out the roster and a boatload of money on the suns ownership part, but it can work.

1.)McCarty does us a favor and excercises is player option, or if was turned into a team option, it gets excercised by us.
2.)The suns then trade: Marion/Q/McCarty/Hunter/#21 for Garnett/Kandi.
3.)We then trade our 2007 first rounder and $2mil to Memphis for their 2005 first rounder #19.
4.)We then trade Barbosa to Toronto for their Philly first rounder #16.
5.)We then trade Voskul to NJ for Ron Mercer.
6.)We sign Marko Jaric to the full MLE. (4 year $23.6mil)
7.)We sign Brevin Knight to the Million Dollar Exemption (3 year $5.5mil).

Draft:
#16 - Charlie Villanueva - backup SF/PF/C. he he's got size and skill, and not much of a project.
#18 - Channing Frye - Arizona native. i see him as a more polished version of Hunter, who can shoot from the outside and hit FREE THROWS.
#57 - Travis Diener - might be a nice backup to the backup at PG. the kid has the drive to be a winner. he can shoot/pass.

New Lineup:
Kandi/Frye
Amare/Villanueva
Garnett/Jimmy J/Mercer
JJ/Jaric/Mercer
Nash/Knight/Diener

Total Payroll with absolutely no relief anytime soon - $63.3mil

Amare and Garnett MUST get along....and absolutely NO INJURIES or we would be F'ed.

WOW.

Why not just abandon the Suns name all-together, and pretend like it's an entire new team? Does anyone here remember that they actually made it to the WCF?

I bet Orlando would consider taking the Marion/Jacobsen/pick package now if they had to do it all over again.

The Wolves can "demand" anything they like. If they can't get it, and they think they have to make a trade, they'll settle for less. Orlando didn't get what they "demanded" either.

Hypothetically, what team could make a better offer for Garnett than Marion/Richardson/Hunter or /pick?

Also, I hope someone can refresh my memory from 20+ years ago. What were the circumstances that brought Moses Malone to the Sixers? I know that Philadelphia had a very good team already, and when they got Malone, everyone pretty much threw up their hands and said "That's it, it's over." Why was Houston willing to trade him?

This is the main point, what are better packages? I'm not saying there aren't any, I'm just trying to think of them. Does odom/butler/george/lakers #1 pick sound like a better package? I don't know, pretty close? Any other ideas for better packages minny can get?

Ironically enough people on indsidehoops just yesterday brought up this same idea, but it was j.o/fred jones/filler for garnett, which is certainly a better package, but i'm not sure indiana would trade j.o. and their depth, since w/ artest they're as good as anyone in the east.

come on now....we are talking about a trade that has a 1:1,000,000 chance of happening.

IF it were to happen, those would be the changes i'd make. hell yeah we'd be a different team.....we'd have freaking garnett.

we'd call ourselves the Phoenix 98-0's.

I agree that a package starting with Jermaine O'Neal is likely to be better than one starting with Marion, but I also agree with you that it's difficult to imagine why the Pacers would trade him. Actually, in this particular case, since Richardson is better than Jones, the packages aren't much different in value.

Garnett, Ebi, Hoiberg
for
Gordon, Deng, Antonio Davis

That'd actually be a pretty good deal for both teams. If Chicago re-signs Chandler and Curry they've got a HUGE frontline, plus Kirk Hinrich to distribute.

Minnesota gets two young blue chip players and cap space next summer.

Possibly, if one rates Odom close to or better than Marion, as some people do. Butler hasn't shown much after his rookie year and George is pretty drab, so I don't think those players bring as much to the trade table as Richardson does. But the Lakers' pick is higher, so that could make a difference.

By the way, before people fall all over themselves attacking me for "breaking up the team," please review the original context of this idea. The topic was trading Marion and Richardson for a bunch of question marks, and my contribution was that if the Suns were going to go that route, they'd better set their sights a heckuva lot higher. I'm not advocating the trade (although it would be great) and I don't think it will happen.

I think the hypothetical Phoenix offer is much more attractive.

I think it would be if Minnesota had a shot in Hell of luring free agents. But they don't, so it's not.

But here's another throw out idea, although the Phoenix one may still sound better, unless Minnesota is after size.

Garnett, Wally Szczerbiak
to Denver for
Martin, Camby, Najera, Lenard
