Oh. He is a bit socially awkward, but I don't care. Brillian people often are. Talk to almost any brain surgeon and they are a bit odd. As long as it doesn't impact player relationships, it doesn't matter.
I know what you're saying. I'm just not seeing what you are seeing.

It is hard to be a good defensive team when you only have one top notch defender. If you have two, then everyone else become a better defender as well. Suddenly, its easier for everyone to get steals and defend the rim. You put Dunn and Brooks out there defending the perimeter and suddenly Gillespie is getting steals and Williams becomes a premier rim protector. You take those two away, and everything else suffers.

We saw the same thing when Mikal was hitting his stride next to Crowder with Monty & CP3's direction and leadership. Book and Ayton were both above average.

Its Williams.

His presence alone deters a lot of what we abused by last year. We got dunked on, lobbed on, rebounded on, just dumped on. Having a legit rotation of big men has turned it around for us.

I was reading an article that said just the opposite. Said Williams was a poor defender last year and now he seems to be good and it’s because of the perimeter defense.

I believe the most important defender on the floor is the one who defends the opposing pg. Make the pg work to get the ball up the court and initiate the offense. Then defender on the other teams first option. Takeaway that first pass. Then everyone else becomes better defenders.

I watched our team be bad at D last year, and who did we have last year playing D on the perimeter, the same guys we have playing D this year.

I believe knowing you have a guy behind you who can deter opponents from getting to the rim for easy buckets and easy rebounds is a lot better than unathletic slugs that we had last year.

edit: a lot of has to do with schemes too, allowing guys to play the gaps (deflection/steals), this type is able due to having better centers.

I really think part of it is Ott and being on a new team for Williams. Also, part of it was being on a disaster of a team where all his teammates were probably out of position, etc. Maybe he wasn't as bad as advertised, and improved here with the gym work, and new defensive scheme.

To be fair he played for a terrible Hornets squad with very little talent or consistency due to injuries.

I think this is a good discussion, and I don't think I know for sure the answer. But we have added Brooks defending all over the court to the defense of Dunn from last year. And Brooks is not just an interior defender. He defends the perimeter. He is the second defender. Dillon has always been a good defender, so has Dunn. Williams was not known as a great defender last year. So I think it is more likely that Dillon makes Williams better than vice versa, but its just an opinion that is unprovable since we added both in the off season.

He is about to get his biggest coaching challenge while Book is out.

Ott has us play team ball, including team D, with everybody buying into it. He is definitely a good coach who can teach the players how to improve, over the course. I see everybody and the team executions improved. Particularly, Book and Allen appear less often standing in the middle after a shot that often led to open 3pt shot.
That said, MW seems to be a natural at D who needed just the right environment and proper instruction to shine. He's now quick at recognizing the opposing guy left open after switch and scamble, swiftly rotating to him and very effective at bothering the shot though not always altering or blocking it. Actually, his rebounding number is relatively low is mainly due to such recoveries. His only weakness seems vulnerable to strong backdown post play.
Dunn is physically gifted but not the experienced PoA defender yet, same for Oso and Flemming. But Ott has them all merged a team D concept that minimizes their weakness. We now have a lot of fullcourt pressure and early double teaming that succeeds due to our quick legs and everybody's awareness to switching and rotating.

Our depth allows lots of players to get minutes and push hard the entire game. We wear opposing teams down. Defense full court slows the opposition down and gives them less shot clock to work with, and we are #1 in the league in steals. Hands always in the passing lanes and gassed opponents lead to steals for us. We are winning games because of extra possessions due to D. This is a different kind of Suns team than I have ever seen before.

He is simply keeping it professional, acting like he belongs; you can kind of see the team take on that same persona too. Maybe a touch of aspergers or autism, but who cares if he turns out to bring us home.

He does look a little like Zack Greinke.

ottumn is the season between summer and winter - representing change - the falling of the leaves symbolizing us letting go of the beals and kd's - the cooler temperatures and a win column we had all but forgotten - harvesting the defense that will see us through the winter - did you know people born in ottumn are more likely to live to be 100?

everytime i think this team has peaked or is ready for a skid - everytime i start doubting this team it just guts it the hell out

a win - in minnesota - without our top 2 scorers - and after embarrassing them just days ago

dtv didn't carry the team last night but carried the attention - minnesota started doubling my man lol if you had told me dtv would be getting double covered i would have told you that's not weed your smoking

but what i like about ott is it doesn't matter who's playing in the orchestra each night - he's gonna make sure we hear a good performance- and you never know with this guy

im over wondering if it'll be nhd or fleming coming in and im worried about both but nope - neither played a minute against minnesota - instead ott chose to expand and focus on the horn section - letting gillespie goody ye and grayson all play a melody minnesota found chaotic

diabolical conductor - nobody wants to play us
