I think those calling for minutes for Flemming are missing the ball. During camp they commented on the fact that they had to get him past imposter syndrome. Convince him he can play at this level. That’s a confidence game. Put him in before he’s ready and he’ll self destruct mentally and may never be recoverable. Bring him along slowly. Let him see what he’s capable of against nba level talent in practice day after day. Let him experience that success. Maybe then some g league so he can gain self confidence that he can play at a high level. Then bring him back for spot minutes and hopefully his confidence blossoms.
So, again I ask. Fleming is spelled with one M isn't it? Ouchie, you are usually really good with these kinds of details, so I am questioning myself. It seems it is consistently spelled with two here, but one everywhere else.

Now to the substance. I agree with you on the development of Fleming, but I also think that he needs to ride the bench for a while for the sake of the team. This team needs to continue to develop an identity with its primary players. Once that happens, Fleming will have a more defined role to fill when he does get court time.

I stand corrected!

Agree with your thoughts. The winning right now is good for the franchise, good for the vets, and good for the rooks to see and be a part of . . . even if on the bench. Don’t disrupt that at this point.

I was slightly underwhelmed by the Ott hiring because I really liked a different candidate but Ott has proven to be a solid choice. Michigan ties may have been in our favor here but given how well he's handled post game interviews and coached the team, I think someone saw something special in him. I'm not sure if that was Gregory, Ish, or anyone else but I'm willing to say he was the right hire.

One of his most encouraging traits thus far is being able to get meaningful contributions from deeper bench players. I remember D'Antoni and Monte could never develop a bench beyond the 6th or 7th guy no matter who the Suns brought in. His system and play style really fosters confidence as players are involved offensively and expected to play a role beyond standing in the corner.

I said before he reminded me of Eric Spoelstra in Miami with how he came up as a video coordinator to coach and his demeanor is similar. The results and buy in resemble that in Miami, to a degree. There is a definite culture being developed here and he could be a long time coach here if things continue as well as they have.

I can't imagine having the same coach for a decade or more. It would be great though.

I was thinking Spoelstra too.

You have to be committed to that coach, because there will be ups and downs. You can't make firing the coach the easy way out of bad management or problem players. You do have to have a good coach.

We had John McLeod for what, 14 years? He would not have lasted that long in today's NBA. He was an OK coach, but had lots of flaws.

Before my time. My Suns fandom started under Cotton.

I remember John McLeod's platoon style of basketball and attending Suns practices at the Jewish Community Center in Phoenix.

McLeod had a rigid sub pattern and would frustratingly take players out who had a hot hand just because it was time.

I wasn't excited by this hire one bit but I have to give credit. I think anytime you have a coach who can get the maximum out of guys that might not be necessarily the best talent in the league that says a ton about their coaching ability. He was been a pleasant surprise so far. Maybe the Suns for once found that next up and coming coach.

It was somewhat like changing lines in ice hockey.

Looking back it’s hilarious that the suns practiced at the JCC alongside my grandma’s jazzercize classes and my swim team.

I recall attending the Westphall-Davis Basketball Camp at the JCC in when I was a kid and was petrified every time the ball came my way. I wasn’t that into hoops yet so didn’t appreciate meeting all the amazing players.

Yes, it was a small and intimate setting. Fans could get close to the players, coaches and their families. Those practices bring back fond memories.

I remember going to the Suns youth basketball camp headlined by John MacLeod. I still to this day distinctly remember him telling us to double sock which I have done every time I play basketball ever since. RIP.

I’m a big fan of ott thus far.
Me too! For a rookie coach, he's been absolutely amazing. His ability to get buy-in as a rookie coach is top notch. Some have mentioned some weirdness in his personality but I don't see it. To me he is just an intense, hard working guy. He wants the best for and from his players and his team. He remains even keel through adversity and the high points. He knows there are going to be bumps along the way. He keeps our guys ready.

Plus, the just get a little better each day thing goes a long way. I'm excited about our future with him at the helm. Hoping for a long tenured coach for a change. I felt similar about Monty but his flaws later got the best of him. So far, I'm not seeing any with Coach Ott.

Ott to be a fun ride for long time. (Sorry, in my defense, I am a dad and it's hard to resist such a punnable name.)

I'll fall on the sword of describing Ott's weirdness. To me, he comes across as being on the spectrum. I don't see that as a negative by any means. His ability to stay calm, cool, and collected is part of why I think that in addition to his ability to make adjustments. Like he views the game differently. Neuro-divergent is another way to put it, I think.

Maybe I'm wrong. Spare me the attacks because I don't view that as a negative and I'm not attacking anyone, mainly Ott, by describing what I see. I've talked with a few friends IRL about it and they've shared similar views so I thought it might help to actually say it here rather than dance it around by continually calling him weird.

(Disclaimer for no one in particular)

According to Gambo it was Gregory

Oh. He is a bit socially awkward, but I don't care. Brillian people often are. Talk to almost any brain surgeon and they are a bit odd. As long as it doesn't impact player relationships, it doesn't matter.

He is simply keeping it professional, acting like he belongs; you can kind of see the team take on that same persona too. Maybe a touch of aspergers or autism, but who cares if he turns out to bring us home.
