Strong baseball finish carries M-W to 5-5, second place tie

MADRID — Winning its last four games, Madrid-Waddington finished at 5-5 and in a four way tie for second place in the NAC East with a 5-5 record.

Parrishville-Hopkinton led the division with a 10-0 record, while Heuvelton tops the NAC West at 12-0 and Canton earned a share of the Central Division crown at 9-3 with Massena via a 13-6 win over Potsdam on Thursday.

M-W’s strong finish featured a 6-2 win over Tupper Lake on Thursday, an 11-6 win over Hermon-DeKalb on Tuesday and two forfeit wins over St. Regis Falls which elected to end its season.

M-W moved into the third Class D seed for the section 10 Tournament and Canton claimed the top Class B seed. Canton will host the winner of the 4 (N-N) vs 5 (Gouverneur) game in the Class B semi-finals where number two OFA will host third seeded Potsdam.

Other Class D matchups are Edwards-Knox (8) and Heuvelton (1), Harrisville (7) at Parishville-Hopkinton (2), Hermon-DeKalb (5) at Chateaugay (4).

M-W 6 - TL 2: Logan Kingston authored a very strong start on the mound for the Yellow Jackets who scored three times in the second inning.

M-W 11 - H-D 6: Colby Todd doubled and singled and struck out 11 pitching the win. Bear Wilson singled twice and Logan Kingston and Cole Smith singled. Noah Friot singled twice for H-D, Noah MacDonald doubled and Jon teReille, Kasey Wentzel, Owen Clifford, Ben Kotz and Evan Clifford singled.

Canton 13 - Potsdam 6: The Golden Bears picked up at the plate from a 31-12 win over Malone earlier in the week. Zadok Roiger pitched a complete game win and drove in five runs with two singles, a double and homerun. Luke Clausen lined three singles and a double to drive in fourruns and Gavin Schryver singled and scored four runs.

Paul Ames singled twice and Max DeCoteau, Matt Holbrook, Troy Zuhlsdorf and Jon Gidney also singled. Nic Roda and Sam Martin doubled for Potsdam.
