We are just under a month until the Pittsburgh Steelers arrive at Latrobe for training camp and the Mike McCarthy era officially begins. McCarthy, a legend himself, has some big shoes to fill after Mike Tomlin stepped down and he can really endear himself to the fanbase with a strong training camp. Here are the storylines to watch.

Backup quarterback battle

You can bet that all eyes will be on Will Howard and Drew Allar at practice, assuming Allar signs his rookie deal in time to start camp. There's a real possibility the quarterback who loses this battle might end up on the practice squad so there's no room for error.

Division of labor on the offensive line

Even though Dylan Cook and Spencer Anderson have been solid on the right side of the offensive line, we expect rookie offensive tackle Max Iheanachor and guard Gennings Dunker to get more than a fair shot to beat out the two veterans and will really showcase the trenches in preseason games.

Managing snaps for veterans

For all the young guys on this roster, The Steelers have several high-profile stars who are over 30 who under Mike Tomlin would have been given the white glove treatment and we want to see how McCarthy handles his vets in terms of reps at practice and in preseason games.

Outside linebacker rotation

Pittsburgh has a massive amount of salary cap invested in their three big outside linebackers and we want to see how new defensive coordinator Patrick Graham gets them all on the field at the same time. Along those lines, we want to see where T.J. Watt lines up as he tries to break out of a serious slump he had last season.

New look Steelers on offense and defense

We have already seen in minicamps that McCarthy runs a very different practice than what everyone is used to in Pittsburgh. Training camp will take that up several notches and we should get a better idea of what the new offense and defense will look like, not just at practice but in those all-important preseason games.
