On Monday, the NFL released the schedule for all the joint practices to be held at training camps this year. One name noticeably absent are the Pittsburgh Steelers. They are one of the only teams who don't have a joint practice on the schedule.

This move harkens back to head coach Mike McCarthy's days with the Green Bay Packers. McCarthy didn't do joint practices then, opting to focus on detail-oriented work with his young players in Green Bay and focus on preparing for quality reps in preseason games.

However, this philosophy shifted when he became the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys. McCarthy shifted things with a roster full of veterans and utilized those joint practices as a way to get full speed reps with them and save them from the wear and tear of preseason games.

Joint practice schedules are fluid and this is something that could change once training camp starts. One of the reasons McCarthy didn't like joint practices with the Packers was leaving home and taking that away from the fans. With the Steelers practicing at Saint Vincent College, we don't know if that could influence his decision here.
