One of the most exciting players on the Pittsburgh Steelers roster in 2026 to keep a close eye on is fourth-year cornerback Joey Porter Jr.

From now to the start of the regular season, we at Steelers Wire will be analyzing every player on the roster. Here's a look at Porter and what could be in store for his 2026 season.

At a glance

  • Height: 6-foot-2
  • Weight: 194 pounds
  • Age: 25
  • NFL experience: 4

Career with the Steelers

Porter was selected by the Steelers with the 32nd overall pick in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft. The Chicago Bears traded the second-round pick, used to select Porter, to the Steelers in exchange for wide receiver Chase Claypool.

Through his three seasons in the NFL, Porter has been lockdown in man coverage, allowing zero touchdowns when targeted. He's also recorded 165 combined tackles, three tackles for loss, and three interceptions.

What's next in 2026?

Heading into Year 4, Porter is on the last year of his rookie deal and is looking for a massive contract extension, with some even projecting he could reset the cornerback market.

It could be bad news if the Steelers fail to extend Porter before the start of the 2026 season and he pushes his price tag even higher with another standout year.

Porter has already proved he's one of the best man-coverage cornerbacks in the league, but he has yet to earn All-Pro or Pro Bowl recognition. Expect that to change with the new-and-improved defense in 2026.
