The Joey Porter Jr. news continues to be loud for the Pittsburgh Steelers, something the front office is going to have to answer in the immediate term. It sounds like Porter really wants at least $30 million per year.

Porter is the type of player who deserves to get paid handsomely, but I don't know if he's a $30 million-per-year type of guy.

The former Penn State standout, and the son of an NFL legend, definitely has had some impressive moments throughout his NFL career, and while he might be paid by somebody, it doesn't sound like the Steelers might be the team that does it.

"They have slowly been doing that, in case you haven't noticed. Metcalf, Pittman, Dowdle, Rodgers, Washington. But it's a steep mountain to climb to catch that defensive number. And wait till they sign Porter... if they sign him," Gerry Dulac wrote.

“They haven’t soured on the idea (of an extension),” Dulac said. “But I don’t think they’re prepared to pay him the amount some people think he is worth."

It was later reported that he and the Steelers aren't even close on a contract extension, with questions about whether the team will even sign him at this point.

“Report: Joey Porter Jr. and the Steelers aren't close on a contract extension. There's question now if the team will even ink him to a new deal. Per PG Steelers insider Gerry Dulac. Porter Jr. wants to make around $30 million. There's some speculation the Steelers value him at closer to $20 million,” Andrew Fillipponi wrote.

A $10 million per year difference might not seem like a whole lot in the grand scheme of things, but that's a massive number. There's a hometown discount Porter is willing to take, but I can't imagine that happening, either.
