Steelers Rookie Wide Receiver Compared To JuJu Smith-Schuster originally appeared on SportsNet Pittsburgh. Add SportsNet Pittsburgh as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Pittsburgh Steelers added more weapons to the offense and a rookie wide receiver is drawing comparisons to a former Steelers wide receiver.
Pittsburgh selected Germie Bernard in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft with the 47th overall pick. In rookie camp, and during OTAs and minicamp, Bernard has impressed, and Steelers insider Mike DeFabo compared him to JuJu Smith-Schuster.
“In terms of his physical dimensions and playing style, Bernard reminds me in some ways of JuJu Smith-Schuster. The second-round pick isn’t going to wow you with any single part of his game. He has good size at 6-1 and 207 pounds, but he’s not towering,” DeFabo wrote.
“He has solid speed at 4.48, but he’s not necessarily a burner. When you package it all together, however, he’s a well-rounded and versatile receiver who should find ways to make an impact this year. During OTAs and minicamp, he showed confident hands and good body control, especially near the sideline. That backs up what his college tape already said.”
Bernard recorded 64 receptions for 862 yards and seven touchdowns last season at Alabama, showing he can be an effective receiver.
After seeing Bernard at OTAs and minicamp, DeFabo expects him to carve out a big role in the slot for the Steelers in 2026, as the insider expects him to be part of the rotation at receiver.
The Steelers' wide receiver room features the likes of DK Metcalf, Michael Pittman Jr., Roman Wilson, Bernard, Ben Skowronek, and Kaden Wetjen, among others.
