The Boston Red Sox got a major boost to the roster with the return of starting pitcher Sonny Gray on Wednesday.

Gray was activated off the injured list due to a hamstring injury, and in his first start in over two weeks, the right-hander was stellar for Boston. The veteran starter went five scoreless innings, allowing just four hits and two walks, while he struck out two.

It was a good outing for Gray, and he said he knew he’d pitch well in his return to the majors as he feels more comfortable on an MLB mound.

“I feel more comfortable out there on the mound and in a big league game than I do in a lot of places, and that’s just the truth,” Gray said.

Gray’s solid outing also helped Boston cruise to a 4-0 win over the Detroit Tigers as the Red Sox pulled off the three-game sweep.

“It's been a good (three days),” said Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy. “The series was good. We did a lot of a lot of things right. We played great defensively. We ran the bases extremely well. We got the clutch hits that have been missing. We pitched extremely well. So it was a really good short trip.”

Boston is now 16-21 on the season and will host the Tampa Bay Rays for a four-game series at Fenway Park beginning on Thursday.
