Of course i don't know that for sure but given size discrepancy and how badly injured she was, I have a hard time believing a public defender would have gotten a similar perp equal or less time. It was felony battery charges, after all. We're not talking more run of the mill domestic violence. To see zero time on a felony like that is rare.

Perhaps, unconsciously, our sports "heroes" are held to a higher standard. Then, when they let us down, it hurts twice as much.

It's like we want them punished extra hard because they didn't meet our expectations.

There are some sentences given to normal everyday people that are shockingly lenient.

I agree sometimes there are lenient sentences but as to the rest I don't think Bridges is being held to any crazy standard. I wouldn't befriend anyone who beat their spouse and I definitely won't support an athlete who does. Don't hit your baby's mom isn't a high standard. I hope he's changed his ways but that's less to do with me and more to do with her and their children. I'd have an easier time rooting for Horry and the Morris brothers altogether than someone who has Bridges history though. I'm having a hard time squaring this. I love basketball but can't wrap my head around this. Thankfully the last time the Suns faced something similar, Colangelo sent JKidd packing. He led the Nets to back to back finals but i didn't miss him. I wish Ishbia would be as much of a hardliner in this regard.

miles is a bridges too far for a lot of fans

if your kid watches and becomes a fan of a grayson allen or a royce oneale - no problemo - amarite?

but if your kid watches and becomes a fan of miles bridges it's different

if little timmy or tammy sees miles bridges on their tv screen playing the roll of a hero alongside their established role models... are you really gonna buy little timmy/tammy a miles bridges jersey? let him or her rock that jersey at school? without having some kind of talk?

So far, nothing from the Suns themselves yet (the AI is a little bit off in that first sentence):

The short answer: yes — the Phoenix Suns have already addressed the Miles Bridges acquisition, and multiple reports outline both their reasoning and future plans.

What the Suns have said or signaled

  • They intend for Bridges to be more than a one‑year rental. Suns insider John Gambadoro reported that the team’s plan is to extend Bridges’ contract rather than let him walk after the final year of his current deal. This is the clearest public-facing indication of the team’s stance: they want him long‑term.
  • Local reporting suggests the Suns know they must defend the move. Sports Illustrated noted that the organization will “have to defend their move,” implying internal acknowledgment that the acquisition raises cultural and basketball‑fit questions. While not an official team statement, it reflects the tone around the organization.
  • Coverage from Arizona Sports frames the trade as controversial for culture and fit. Reporting described the Bridges addition as a “tough sell” for the Suns’ culture and roster construction. Again, not a direct quote from team leadership, but it reflects how the move is being interpreted by those close to the team.

What’s not publicly available yet

There is no formal press conference quote or official team-issued statement directly from the Suns’ front office specifically defending or explaining the acquisition beyond what insiders have reported. The public-facing commentary so far comes from:

  • Insider reporting (Gambadoro)
  • Media analysis (Arizona Sports, Sports Illustrated, Yahoo Sports)

I wonder how much this is Ish or Gregory. Not sure how many people know that Gregory's time at Michigan State as a front office guy is when they brought Miles in. They definitely had a relationship at the time in Michigan so who wanted it more.
how does this leverage the ability to get an unprotected 1st? I get the 20M savings, but Ish is not $arver. They had to have agreed on an extension before including that

Those guys can develop just fine. Now they are backups that need to earn minutes. We get way more flexibility not only with cap but opened up more tradable picks. I believe Green is the next one to go for maybe a PG.
honestly, if its for long term success..... Book needs to be the one in the block for a PG & Picks..... Green>>>>Book longterm

If you really haven't figured it out yet, anything Gambo says comes directly from the Suns.

So what?

Until I hear something from Gregory or Ishbia, I'll just treat Gambo as what he is. A mouthpiece. Nothing more. Gambo hasn't given any justification that I know of, just why we got him for basketball reasons.

In a ideal world, the franchise reads this backlash correctly and backs out of the deal.

rare moment of you and me seeing eye to eye.

and I just can't kick the feeling that this ownership group was supposed to wash away the stink of the previous racist/sexist group... has been hot to trot for a guy who brutally beat his wife and kids and are likely ready to reward him with millions.

Would you have felt the same way if Kobe had come here, with the rape situation? Believe me, Cheese. I am not arguing. I am still just trying to wrap my own head around all of this. I genuinely would like to know if you see it as similar.

I was disgusted by the Kobe rumors back in the day.

oh without a doubt. I'm still mystified at the deification of a guy who was credibly accused of rape the way Kobe was.

Like I said earlier in the thread, I stopped paying attention to the Suns during the season when the news broke that Kidd hit his wife over a damn French fry. I wasn't going to cheer for that POS or any success he had (a decision which was admittedly made a little easier because his teams bored the piss out of me), and I was over the moon when we traded him (partially and admittedly because I thought Marbury was going to be a stud! Oof!)

He did not beat the kids

He was was charged with one felony count of causing harm to a parent of a child and two felony counts of child abuse.

He plead no contest to the count with the parent and it looks like the other charges got dropped in whatever deal he got offered to plead down.

Of course I do not condone his past behavior. It was horrific. But I also won't convict him for life. I hope he's gotten the best help money can buy and has turned his personal life around. I have to imagine the Suns have looked into this fully. From a basketball standpoint, I think it makes a lot of sense. It's what we've been missing.
okay...this is what I was seaking...someone who has all the pieces and says it make ssense..
sorry...I just woke up over here, lol..

question...
Is there another shoe to drop???...or is this it...the entirety>?

and...

how does it shake out on the court? where do the minutes go?

Those charges are because the kids were their. He did not beat his kids.

I went to a few Hornets games last year and I'm happy about this move, only if they Suns add another shooter. Bridges is a better player than Allen and O'neale, point blank. They freed up some minutes in the process and added a guy who can actually play PF.

Obviously fans have a choice.

Jason Kidd was traded by the Suns after a domestic violence arrest and went on to lead the Nets to two Finals. He earned his second chance and succeeded.

Miles Bridges has served his suspension and completed his counseling. Doesn’t he deserves the same opportunity to show he’s changed, rather than being permanently exiled from the sport?

He instantly became our best post-up player and possibly best rim attacker. He's much more fluid than Brooks. He's also a capable passer. The Suns got torched by big rim attackers like Jaime Jaquez and Deni Avdija. Bridges has some of that ability from what I've seen. Whether or not he can counter those attackers on the defensive end remains to be seen.
