Apparently Elon made more money today on paper than Warren Buffet has made in his entire career!
I still think the evaluation is insane but it's up 40% so far so hard to complain.
I couldn't have bought it if I tried to most of my free money now is in Vanguard but that fund won't let me buy individual stocks. I have it in Fidelity my IRA is managed by them and it's owned by at least 2 of the funds they have me in.

This thread feels very toppy. But I wouldn't bet on it.
Dang, knew I should have shorted. I wasn't crazy over the contract prices though.

Haven't really looked was Elon allowed to sell yet I know there was talk before in addition to being in indexes early they might allow some of the senior leadership to sell early. If not will be interesting to watch when he can.
He lost 350 billion on paper the last 3 days, still at 1.1 trillion.
In the past he doesn't sell until he absolutely has to because he doesn't want to pay taxes curious if that's even a concern now.
I have seen forecasts of it falling below 100, I doubt that will happen they will find some way to prop it up for awhile longer and then when it does drop again all of us will get hit in our index funds.

I looked he actually is in a 366 day lockup period apparently the sell early stuff was for other execs his share is so massive they made him agree to a huge lockup. So he can't sell until mid 2027.

I can see a huge tax benefit, as they hire space X to send shuttles up to repair the satellites, lol.... would guess if Elon starts a phone company it really never shows a profit on paper.
but I saw some ...not prototypes..concepts I guess, of some phones designed to be direct competition with the iphone...would be a good market to target except with a lot of the moves he has made the past couple years a very large portion of the iphone demographic dont like Elon very much right now...so he might need to hire a PR firm to clean his image in some regards in order to win that business.
either way, he would get a huge chunk of the neverapple folks,..like myself...as long as its a solid product

He would be stupid to try and go head up with Apple and Samsung. So yeah he’ll probably do it and get idiots to buy in and never deliver. Elon is a hype machine. Tesla cars were status symbols they were never quality and now that status isn’t there anymore.
Tell me where I’m wrong? This isn’t political. Elon has made a living promising dumb people the world and not really delivering on anything. There’s a million videos online of Elon telling people just insane things he’s gonna do
where in my post was I touting his genius?? Pretty sure I even mentioned it wouldnt show a profit.
but the dude does know how to acquire wealth..an admirable skill... and he did manage to bring the internet to tens of thousands of people that could never get it before.
thats all it is... this is the finance section...and like it or not when Musk makes a move its relevant in the finance section.

Tesla has returned 34,600% since it’s IPO 16 years ago, I’d
say he’s delivered to plenty of people who did buy in. It’s more than just a car company.
SpaceX to me is a long term investment not something to day trade. It’s not profitable now but it will be in a couple of years.
Elon didn’t invent satellite internet. That’s another thing that was around before him. Like I said he makes his living off convincing dumb people.
I originally responded to you because you started talking about Elon launching phone and taking on Apple and Samsung.
Like I said he has a niche and he’s great at exploiting it.

Yeah because institutional investors always fall for a niche, it isn’t just retail investors. You are allowing your politics and personal feelings to blind you to how much money he has made for people over the years. Tesla has done about 40 times better than the S&P and that is with 50 & 70% drawdowns during that period. I wish I had invested earlier in Tesla but didn’t believe in the hype, I was wrong and came in later than I should have but it still has made me a great deal of money, part of the reason I will be retired in 2 years at 55 and taking home more in retirement than I do working.
Who said anything about taking on Apple and Samsung? That's like saying Starlink is taking on Apple and Microsoft. It's taking on ATT, Verizon, and T-Mobile. All of which have been raising prices recently. The iPhone already support satellite communication so they could expand on that and use SpaceX as the provider.
And as far as Elon goes, he didn't invent satellite internet or electric car but he brought both main stream and improved on what was offered before hand. First mover isn't always the best position. MS wasn't the first DOS os, windowing system, spread sheet, word processor, etc. Really first anything, but that doesn't mean they haven't been a huge player and have a had a huge impact on computers.
